The 6 Best Olive Oil Brands To Make Your Next Dinner With

Best Olive Oil Brands

Let’s chat olive oil. The golden elixir has been treasured over most other cooking oils for literal centuries, with many different variations coming out of the woodwork. The oil aisle in the grocery store is an overwhelming testament to *just* how many olive oil brands are out there. How do you even choose? We’ve got a few tips and tricks for selecting the right kind, *plus* the best olive oil brands to shop, so that your next meal reaps the benefit from every precious drop.

How can you tell if olive oil is good?

Photo by Polina Tankilevitch / PEXELS

Any olive oils that are labeled as ‘pure’ or ‘refined’ should be avoided if you’re searching for that real olive oil-y taste. Bottles marketed as ‘extra virgin olive oil’ go through a strict, standardized process that prohibits any tweaks to the product, thus resulting in a purer pour.

Light and heat can impact the taste of your treasured EVOO by making it spoil quicker, so legit olive oils won’t be bottled in materials that can be penetrated by either of them. Look for olive oils kept inside dark glass bottles or opaque containers for the best product!

Italy, Greece, and Spain are the main players in the *authentic* olive oil scene. Like coffee beans, you’re going to want to look towards a single-origin (from one place, not a mix of a few) olive oil to ensure you’re adding the highest quality, most reputable kind to your cart.

Beyond these factors, you can get really picky with the tasting notes of olive oil. Some hold a peppery kick, while others are more mild. It’s up to you what you’d like to eat!

More than anything, you should take how you’ll use your olive oil into account – are you using it mostly for heating and cooking, or rather a finishing drizzle on salads and homemade dips? The kind you buy will depend on that.

The Best Olive Oil Brands to Buy

Brightland

Brightland ensures their olive oil products are never over-processed and made without fillers or preservatives. Reigning from a California-based family farm, you can find solace in your purchase, knowing each bottle you get comes in its purest form. The opaque bottles keep their olive oils fresher for longer, *plus* they come in a wide range of infused flavors: chili, rosemary, garlic, lemon, and basil. Their Awake ($37) strain holds a robust flavor, good for beginner use.

Frankies 457

Your mind will be blown by the flavor of this olive oil that Matty Matheson of Hulu's The Bear thinks is "f*cking mental." Frankies olive oil brand is a true award-winning OG in the scene, thanks to the extreme craftsmanship and their handling of some tasty Sicilian olives. Their olive oils are Protected Denomination of Origin-certified, a recognition only given to Italian olive oils that have undergone an intense quality-testing process. This Organic EVOO($22) holds bright fruity flavors among a grassy, peppery background, great for any type of cooking! Matheson looooves it on ice cream.

Graza

This olive oil brand is pretty buzzy these days, but we promise it doesn't skimp on quality. Graza's oils are certified single-origin, coming from Jaen, Spain (where reportedly, over half of the world's olive oil is made). The brand is quite particular about the kind of olives they source for their product, crediting Picuals for their high smoke point, long shelf life, and health benefits. Two kinds are available for your kitchen – Drizzle ($20) is made with younger olives, and Sizzle ($15) with matured ones.

Kosterina

Kosterina puts Greek olive oil at the center of your dining table, because (at least they claim) that American olive oils – full of fillers and poor tastes – aren't cutting it. Their olive oils are crafted quite quickly after the Grecian olives are harvested, resulting in a purer, more flavorful, and higher quality bottle.

Vignoli

Italian olive oil brand, Vignoli, is committed to "cutting-edge farming and storage technologies" that bring you high-quality oils. The brand works closely with local growers in Italy, ensuring that their products have the utmost integrity – and more than anything, amazing flavor. They believe good EVOO should naturally have health benefits, which is why they prioritize having polyphenols and antioxidants each bottle. These can help reduce cholesterol levels and prevent signs of aging and cardiovascular disease.

Fat Gold

Fat Gold also wants to bring better olive oil to America. The brand believes that olive oil can be *just* as nuanced in flavor as wine, chocolate, or beer – and their products (and expertise!) deliver that. Produced locally in California, their tinned olive oil retains a well-rounded flavor, and due to its storage container, will last you a while for all those cooking projects.

Ranking my favorite Trader Joe's desserts may be the hardest thing I've ever been tasked with, because they're all so freakin' good. Not to mention, I love sweet treats. I can't resist them. Their gravitational pull makes the cravings irrefutable.

From cookies to chocolate candies, I truly can't go a day without a little nibble of something sweet, and lucky for me, I live a few blocks away from TJ's – so Trader Joe's desserts are never too far out of reach. A definitive, detailed ranking of my top 7 Trader Joe's desserts lies ahead. Get ready for store-bought dessert-y bliss with these picks!

7. Speculoos Cookie Butter

I could really be unhinged and eat this cookie butter out of the jar as dessert – that's how yum it is. Seriously, if you haven't tried this sweet spread, you're missing out! The Speculoos Cookie Butter tastes just like a Biscoff cookie, and one heaping spoonful will do you right for a super easy midnight snack. If you wanna be extra, you can blend some into a homemade milkshake or even drizzle it over a bowl of vanilla ice cream!

6. Gluten-Free Cinnamon Coffee Cake Muffins

I am not gluten-free, but these gluten-free muffins are the very best variety that TJ's offers, in my opinion. When I tried them for the first time, I'd expected them to be dry and crumbly, as most of the GF snacks I'd had experience with were. That wasn't the case at all! These coffee cake muffins are very tender and moist, and the cinnamon-y flavor is impeccable – even better with an actual cup of coffee. They're ridden with little crunchy "cinnamon bits" that keep the snacking experience interesting.

5. Chocolate Vanilla Creme Joe-Joe's

I love Trader Joe's version of Oreos more than I like actual Oreos, I fear! Joe-Joe's are not overwhelmingly sugary like Oreos are, but they're still considerably sweet. You can just tell they're thoughtfully made with more natural ingredients. Chocolate wafers with vanilla filling is an undeniable classic, and you need to dunk these in cold milk to really see what all the fuss is about. Now, I'm just waiting on TJ's to make a double-stuffed version! Gimme all the icing.

4. Super Chocolatey Chocolate Chunk Cookie Dough

When it comes to Trader Joe's desserts, this frozen cookie dough ranks fourth. As much as I enjoy baking my own creations, this pack of a dozen cookies yields the exact chocolate chip cookies I want – packed with tons of chocolate, gooey in the middle, crispy around the edges – the whole thing. And they're perfect. They taste best warm and melty out of the oven, but they also keep well in sealed tupperware!

3. Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups

For me, convenience is key when it comes to sweet treat o'clock, so Trader Joe's desserts that come in finger food form are my most-loved! I swear these stout lil' bites are better than Reese's cups (still love you, Reese's) by a long shot. They're made with dark chocolate instead of milk chocolate, plus the outer coating is so much thicker and satisfyingly crunchy. The PB filling is smooth and addicting. I recommend keeping these cups in the fridge or freezer, but you do you!

2. Chocolatey Coated Chocolate Chip Cookie Dunkers

All of these Trader Joe's desserts are worthy of adding to your cart, but these crispy dunkers take the cake (or rather, the cookie) for second place. I could talk for hours about these thin, chocolate-dipped cookies. They are the perfect match for a tall glass of milk at the end of the day. They soak up the milk in such a magical way without ever falling apart! Think of these dunkers as your traditional CCC (chocolate chip cookie) without the fuss of baking.

1. Brookie

The Trader Joe's Brookie and I are BFFs. I especially enjoy the size of this dessert, since all I need to feel satisfied is one square. Each cookie-brownie hybrid is hearty, thick, and full of chewy, chocolatey goodness (if you can't tell by now, I love chocolate)! The cookie side is flaky at the same time, with tons of yummy texture contrasting with the brownie half. As much as I like snacking on these by themselves, I think they're even better when you microwave a few and serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

"You want your wife to do something that you're not doing and it's like, it's hard sometimes to look in the mirror and really have to realize, man, maybe you're not the person that you necessarily thought that you were."

"I’m fighting to do this the right way, to build a healthy relationship,” Hailey says. “I’m not going to sit here and lie and say it’s all a magical fantasy. It’s always going to be hard. It’s a choice. You don’t feel it every single day...But there’s something beautiful about it anyway — about wanting to fight for something, commit to building with someone."

Ever since oat milk arrived on the scene, beverage brands have hurriedly released their own takes on the sweet, mellow, and nut-less plant-based alternative. Choices are nice, but they also make picking the right one a difficult decision. We sampled a variety of the best oat milks on the market and reviewed them based on taste, texture, and froth-ability. That way, you know which ones to buy for your best DIY latte yet.

Is Oat Milk Good For You?

We also considered each brand's ingredients and nutrition facts. Most oat milk recipes start with oats, water, some type of oil for a milk-like mouthfeel, and added vitamins + minerals (an FDA requirement for non-dairy milks).

Some brands stop there, but most add certain gums and stabilizers for a silky texture and longer shelf life. Founder and CEO of Califia Farms, Greg Steltenpohl, tells us there's no evidence that gums and stabilizers have negative effects on the body, but if you're wary, pick an oat milk without them. You'll also notice that even “no-sugar-added" oat milk brands vary in sugar content; that's because different processes of turning oats into liquid yield different amounts of sugar and carbs.

Keep scrolling to find out how each of the oat milks performed among our taste testers, ranked from least favorite to favorite.

10. Planet Oat Extra Creamy Oat Milk

First up is our Planet Oat milk review! Though we are all for the Original Planet Oat flavor, the brand's Extra Creamy version is best in small doses. It gets beautifully voluminous when frothed into hot drinks, but the thick, syrupy coating it leaves on your tongue isn't quite worth drinking solo or in cereal.

Ingredients: Oat milk (filtered water, oats), sunflower oil, calcium carbonate, dipotassium phosphate (stabilizer), guar gum, sea salt, sunflower lecithin, gellan gum, vitamin A palmitate, vitamin D2, riboflavin (vitamin B2), vitamin B12

Nutrition Facts (per cup): Calories: 120 / Total Fat: 3.5 grams / Saturated Fat: 0.5 grams / Carbohydrates: 22 grams / Dietary Fiber: 3 grams / Sugar: 5 grams / Protein: 2 grams

9. Coffee Mate Natural Bliss Vanilla Oat Milk Creamer

If you enjoy the sweet taste of Coffee Mate's French Vanilla creamer but are cutting back on dairy, the brand's Natural Bliss Vanilla Oat Milk Creamer is just the splash you need in your morning coffee. With 8 grams of added cane sugar per tablespoon, it's a bit too sweet for our everyday oat milk needs, but it works wonderfully when we're in the mood for something dessert-like.

Ingredients: Oat milk (water, oat flour), cane sugar, coconut oil, pea protein, baking soda, natural flavor, gellan gum

Nutrition Facts (per tablespoon): Calories: 25 / Total Fat: 1 gram / Saturated Fat: 1 gram / Carbohydrates: 5 grams / Sugar: 8 grams / Protein: 0 grams

8. Elmhurst Unsweetened Milked Oats

Elmhurst Unsweetened Milked Oats is a more natural choice for when you're concerned about oils, gums, and stabilizers being added to your oat milk. It's our fave oat milk without oil. It contains only water, oats, and salt, which makes for a watery, slightly gritty texture, and a flavor similar to almond milk. It's not quite right for coffee, but we would happily use it in smoothies.

Ingredients: Filtered water, whole grain oats, salt

Nutrition Facts (per cup): Calories: 80 / Total Fat: 1.5 grams / Saturated Fat: 0 grams / Carbohydrates: 14 grams / Dietary Fiber: 2 grams / Sugar: 1 gram / Protein: 4 grams

7. Mooala Organic Coconut Oatmilk

This sugar-free Mooala Oatmilk gets its creaminess not from oil, but from organic coconut cream! For an oat milk without oil, it's impressively sweet. The coconut flavor is natural and subtle, and it gives the beverage a more exciting taste than your typical oat milk. Since it has such a clean, non-oily mouthfeel, we prefer to drink it by itself and eat it with cinnamon-y cereals rather than use it as a coffee creamer.

Ingredients: Organic gluten-free oat milk (filtered water, organic gluten-free oat flour), organic coconut cream, less than 2 percent of calcium fortification (calcium carbonate), sea salt, organic cinnamon, gellan gum

Nutrition Facts (per cup): Calories: 50 / Total Fat: 3.5 grams / Saturated Fat: 3 grams / Carbohydrates: 3 grams / Dietary Fiber: 0 grams / Sugar: 0 grams / Protein: 1 gram

6. Elmhurst Milked Oats Barista Edition

Let's hear it for the best oat milk for forthing! You can bet Elmhurst's shelf-stable Milked Oats Barista Edition is ideal for frothing into espresso drinks. It sadly does curdle and separate a bit when poured directly into coffee, so we use it strictly for foaming purposes. Just like Elmhurst's Original oat milk, it has no oils or gums.

Ingredients: Filtered water, whole grain oats, contains 2% or less of: Cane sugar, dipotassium phosphate, salt

Nutrition Facts (per cup): Calories: 80 / Total Fat: 1 gram / Saturated Fat: 0 grams / Carbohydrates: 14 grams / Dietary Fiber: 2 grams / Sugar: 4 grams / Protein: 3 grams

5. Happy Planet Original Oatmilk

Happy Planet's versatile Original Oatmilk has a mildly oat-y taste and a creamy, dairy-free mouthfeel, so it lingers a bit on your tongue without feeling sticky. It also makes coffee drinks impressively silky, non-bitter, and a true treat, so definitely foam it up for a cappuccino or two!

Ingredients: Oat base (filtered water, gluten free oats), tricalcium phosphate, gellan gum, sea salt, natural flavor, vitamin A palmitate, vitamin D2, riboflavin, vitamin B12, zinc gluconate

Nutrition Facts (per cup): Calories: 90 / Total Fat: 1.5 grams / Saturated Fat: 0 grams / Carbohydrates: 17 grams / Dietary Fiber: 2 grams / Sugar: 5 grams / Protein: 3 grams

4. Planet Oat Original Oatmilk

Is Planet Oat milk good? We certainly think so. Despite the fact that Planet Oat's Original Oatmilk contains no oil (which is why it's so low in fat), it's the smoothest oat milk we've tried. It also tastes the sweetest even though it has no added sugar, which makes it excellent with cereal. One warning: its yellow-ish hue is a little off-putting, but it gets much whiter when frothed up for coffee drinks.

Ingredients: Oat milk (filtered water, oats), calcium carbonate, dipotassium phosphate (stabilizer), sea salt, gellan gum, vitamin A palmitate, vitamin D2, riboflavin (vitamin B2), vitamin B12

Nutrition Facts (per cup): Calories: 90 / Total Fat: 1.5 grams / Saturated Fat: 0 grams / Carbohydrates: 19 grams / Dietary Fiber: 2 grams / Sugar: 4 grams / Protein: 2 grams

3. Califia Farms Oat Barista Blend

We're pleased to find that Califia's Oat Barista Blend is smooth and sweet (despite its relatively low sugar content), and it really puts the spotlight on the oat flavor. Many of us at Brit + Co think it tastes like actual milk after eating a bowl of Cheerios.

The milk also froths and bubbles exceptionally well — so well, even the ex-baristas in our office say it's the most similar to whole milk they've tried. As we mention up top, gums and stabilizers haven't been proven to harm the body. Nevertheless, we like that Califia keeps its ingredients list simple and gum-free.

Ingredients: Oat milk (water, oats), sunflower oil, minerals (dipotassium phosphate, calcium carbonate, tricalcium phosphate), sea salt

Nutrition Facts (per cup): Calories: 130 / Total Fat: 7 grams / Saturated Fat: 1 gram / Carbohydrates: 14 grams / Dietary Fiber: 0 grams / Sugar: 3 grams / Protein: 1 gram

2. Oatly Barista Edition Oatmilk

Oatly Barista Edition is by far our favorite oat milk to mix into coffee. It might just be the best oat milk for frothing – it foams just like whole milk, which we suspect is due to its unique use of rapeseed oil, an oil similar to canola that does well in high heat.

The product also tastes remarkably similar to whole milk too, down to its subtle sweetness and hint of sourness. You can't always buy this Barista Blend in grocery stores or online since it's often reserved for foodservice accounts, but you can find a list of cafes that carry Oatly online, some of which will sell you it individually or by the case.

Ingredients: Oat milk (water, oats), rapeseed oil. Contains 2 percent or less of: dipotassium phosphate, calcium carbonate, calcium phosphate, sea salt, vitamin B12, riboflavin (B2), vitamin D2, vitamin A

Nutrition Facts (per cup): Calories: 140 / Total Fat: 7 grams / Saturated Fat: 0.5 grams / Carbohydrates: 16 grams / Dietary Fiber: 2 grams / Sugar: 7 grams / Protein: 3 grams

1. Oatly Oat Milk

Though we'd rather have a latte with Oatly Barista Edition, the brand's original oat milk gets our number-one spot for its drinkability and likeness to 2% milk. Unlike other brands, this one has a milky white hue and neutral, not-too-sweet flavor. You can use it like you'd use dairy milk: by itself in a glass, in coffee, and in baked goods, and hot dishes!

When it comes to Planet Oat vs. Oatly (some of the most popular oat milk brands out there), Oatly comes out on top for us.

Ingredients: Oat milk (water, oats). Contains 2 percent or less of: rapeseed oil, dipotassium phosphate, calcium carbonate, tricalcium phosphate, sea salt, dicalcium phosphate, riboflavin, vitamin A, vitamin D2, vitamin B12

Nutrition Facts (per cup): Calories: 120 / Total Fat: 5 grams / Saturated Fat: 0.5 grams / Carbohydrates: 16 grams / Dietary Fiber: 2 grams / Sugar: 7 grams / Protein: 3 grams

Picture it: you're waking up tired because of your partner's snoring so you're thinking about getting a "sleep divorce." You may have tried the Scandinavian Sleep Method or wearing earplugs to help you get cozier, but it's possible they didn't really help. Plus, if you've never slept separately from them, it can feel daunting to broach the topic let alone talk about the benefits of it. Take it from me, a conversation is necessary if you're dealing with sleep deprivation and find yourself being resentful towards your S.O.

There was a time I used to believe that it was cute to fall asleep holding my partner, but now I'm well aware that uninterrupted rest at night can lead to irritation that's not fair to anyone. Because there's several reasons why a "sleep divorce" may be necessary, I spoke with licensed clinical sleep psychologist Dr. Shelby Harris, the Director of Sleep Health at Sleepopolis, to explain what it is, why it's so popular, and how it may benefit couples long-term.

What is a sleep divorce and why do you feel it's gained traction recently?

If you're wondering if a "sleep divorce" means you went to bed, woke up, and decided to get divorced, I'm here to let you know it's not as drastic. Dr. Harris says, "A sleep divorce is when couples decide to sleep in separate beds or rooms because of sleep disturbances from differing sleep schedules or comfort preferences." So if you're not a fan of your partner's snoring and you're been losing sleep over it, this could lead to a "sleep divorce."

According to the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, one-third of people report sleeping somewhere differently than their partner. This is "...fueled by a growing awareness of how important getting good sleep is for health and relationships, changing attitudes toward relationships that prioritize autonomy, and advancements in sleep technology that make separate sleeping arrangements possible and more comfortable," continues Dr. Harris.

What are some signs that a couple should consider getting a sleep divorce?

No matter who you and your S.O. are, it's likely you have differing needs. I'm not telling you to prioritize your autonomy over your partner's, but it does help to have a conversation about losing sleep if that poses an issue. And as it turns out, you're not the only person who may be experiencing sleep issues.

Experts at eachnight discovered the top three states where couples have sleep struggles are New York, Massachusetts, and Maryland. They also discovered that 'insomnia' and 'sleep apnea' are the top two highest searched queries on Google.

Dr. Harris says, "If you're constantly waking up because of your partner's snoring or tossing and turning, feeling frustrated or exhausted from lack of sleep, or if you both have different sleep preferences, like mattress firmness or room temperature, it might be worth considering separate sleeping arrangements. It could help ease tensions and improve both of your sleep quality, benefiting your relationship in the long run."

How can couples benefit from a sleep divorce if they choose to pursue it?

Admittedly, this is a question I've had for a while. Though I've made the decision to sleep in a separate room than my S.O., some people may feel uneasy taking that route. The good news is that Dr. Harris lists reasons why this can be beneficial for couples in the long run.

"A sleep divorce can benefit couples by giving each partner better sleep without disruptions, reducing any resentment that might arise from sleep issues, and improving intimacy since both partners are more rested and happier overall," she says. I know I wasn't a fan of how cranky I was in the morning so I personally swear by getting a "sleep divorce." It's been nice to actually get 8 hours of sleep without feeling sluggish by a certain time.

In Dr. Harris' opinion, "It's like hitting the reset button on sleep and relationships, helping them to understand and respect each other's needs while getting the best rest possible."

Do you believe couples are starting to find nontraditional avenues for successful relationships?

Seeing how popular getting a "sleep divorce" has become, I wondered if couples sought creative solutions more today than they have previously.

Dr. Harris says, "Couples are discovering new ways to make their relationships work, even if they don't follow the traditional scripts we've seen in media and society. Whether it's through sleep divorces, open relationships, or challenging gender roles, people are realizing that what matters most is their own happiness and fulfillment."

July 1 — the officially mid-year point for 2024 — is fast-approaching, and it's a good checkpoint for how you’re doing when it comes to reaching your 2024 goals. Most of us rolled into the new year feeling hopeful that we could meet a list of resolutions by years-end. How are those going? If you’re not where you’d like to be by now, here’s a little help to get you back on track.

I recently spent a weekend at the Dream Inn in Santa Cruz, CA with meditation master Sarah Vie, author of I Wish I'd Known, and about 35 other women to uncover emotions that might be holding us back. A beachside hotel called the Dream Inn couldn’t have been a more perfect location to ponder life’s biggest questions – without kids, dogs, partners, work, and a house to pull us out of our “me” zone.

I started the weekend off a little bit of a mess: stressed from traffic, organizing a dog sitter, and making sure I could log off from work for the weekend. Any talk of meditation and manifesting my dreams was not on my radar when there was a house to clean! Bills to pay! Kid to care for! I realize now how close I was to burnout.

My weekend with Sarah manifesting my dreams at the Dream Inn pulled me back, set me straight, and transformed my mood and energy in ways I never expected.

Here’s what I learned about manifesting your dreams right now.

1.Write down your dreams: And don’t just write them down – be specific about what they look like and how they feel when you’ve finally reached them. Close your eyes and imagine yourself in that moment. Where are you? What does it feel, smell, sound like? What are you doing when you reach them? Use visualization tools like a vision board placed front and center; start a daily meditation routine that keeps you focused on your purpose; and try saying your goals aloud to yourself (if that’s not too weird). These practices can help keep you driven and focused.

2. Write down the “show-me’s”: According to Sarah, this is the how. Write down the small steps for achieving bigger goals. Be consistent. It’s a lot easier to give up on your dreams, when the steps for getting there are not already part of your routine. “We can't just do something one time and expect to change a habit,” said Sarah. Reframe how you think about reaching your goals – a mindset of will do vs. maybe will – and create a routine around the steps.

3. Practice gratitude. Practice gratitude for what you already have – this has a lot to do with shifting your energy and what you attract because what we feel inside attracts the same energy outside. Start a gratitude journal or try these gratitude prompts.

4. Set a daily intention. Sarah suggests using LSD: listen to yourself, stop negative thinking, and declare your goals. Every morning find a quiet space to listen to yourself and your needs – this may be actual meditation, or sitting with a cup of tea, or taking a walk or hike. Set an intention for the day that will help you reach your goals.

5. Replace negative thoughts with positive affirmations. We talked a lot about energies and magnets – what we put out there, we attract so if you're feeling stressed and chaotic guess what's coming right back at you? Underneath that stress though is usually fear – fear of not seeming perfect or saying no or not doing what your true inner self wants to do. Replace those negative beliefs with positive ones; treat yourself with kindness and understanding; and allow yourself to heal slowly to reach a healthier way of living. "Replace those old stories you tell yourself and redefine them into something positive, so your conscious mind starts to believe you can," says Sarah.

6. Focus on what brings you joy. Spend more time doing the things that bring you joy and your energy will shift to a more positive mindset. A positive mindset is key to achieving your goals, attracting positive experiences, and living the life that you want.

7. Stay accountable. Whether it's a friend or partner or a journal that you check in with on a daily or weekly basis, find ways to hold yourself accountable for your goals and check off those small steps you decide are the best way to get there. You got this!
