What’s not to love about Tim Burton’s masterpiece of a film? Starring the OG scream queen Winona Ryder, Catherine O’ Hara, and Michael Keaton, the 1988 film still holds up to this day as a hilarious adventure filled with chaotic mishaps and campy fun.

Hocus Pocus

The Sanderson sisters are staples of Halloween culture at this point, due to how gothic, wicked, and downright hilarious they are. I adore Sarah Jessica Parker, Bette Midler, and Kathy Najimi’s portrayals of the selfish witches who will stop at nothing to achieve immortality. The film is so quotable, laugh-out-loud funny, and festive. Perfect for the season of the witch.

Casper

What’s more adorable than Casper the Friendly Ghost? When I was younger, I used to love Halloween movies that portrayed classically scary figures as kind-hearted and sweet. Casper is the embodiment of this trope, and the movie will give you all the nostalgic feels.

The Addams Family

The Addams Family has so many incredible adaptations, from Tim Burton’s Wednesday to the original series. Yet I must say, my favorite depiction of the show is the 1991 film starring Angelica Houston and Christina Ricci. It’s just so hysterical, unique, and downright fun.

Edward Scissorhands

If you love characters who have a rather monstrous external appearance, yet embody the personality traits of a lost puppy, you’re gonna love Edward Scissorhands. This 1990 classic has the perfect blend of humor, eccentricity, and romance to make it a Halloween must-watch every spooky season.

Hotel Transylvania

It’s easy to dismiss Hotel Transylvania as your typical Adam Sandler flick filled with lazy jokes and toilet humor, but if you actually sit down and watch it, you’ll realize how much fun it is. My hot take is that when Sandler wants to make a good movie, he spins out cinematic gold. Hotel Transylvania is an excellent example of this theory.

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides

I’m a Pirates of the Caribbean stan, through and through, which is why I’m thrilled that Freeform is including it on its 31 Nights of Halloween schedule. It may not seem like your typical Halloween flick, but it’s perfect to watch during the season due to its eerie themes and old-world excitement. Plus, the special effects in this particular film are unmatched.
