Mindy Kaling’s Daughter Had the Best Reaction to Visiting Oprah Winfrey’s House
Even Mindy Kaling’s daughter knows what a big deal Oprah Winfrey is. During an interview on Monday’s episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Kaling shared the story of her baby girl’s first trip to the icon’s house, which the Mindy Project alum called the “nicest home in America.”
Winfrey had invited her A Wrinkle in Time costars to her home for a screening of the movie, but Kaling’s daughter Katherine was “really fussy” on the big day. “I’m like, ‘Oh my god, am I going to be the person that brings a screaming baby into Oprah’s cathedral of beauty and art?'” she recalled to DeGeneres. “The minute we went in, I was like, ‘Katherine, please. Please. You have no idea how high the stakes are right now.'”
Fortunately for Kaling, Katherine understood. “We walked into the door and her eyes went wide, and she stopped crying like she knew she was in Oprah’s house,” the Ocean’s 8 actress said. “And then she was just like coyly smiling and being adorable for, like, the next four hours.”
In February, Kaling opened up about the baby gift Winfrey had sent over for her new arrival, telling USA Today that a U-Haul truck showed up to deliver the gift.
When the truck arrived, it contained “a hand-carved bookcase, prettier than any professional dollhouse you had ever seen, that contained a hundred of the classic essential books in children’s literature,” each labeled, “Katherine’s Book Club.”
