Is Ransom Canyon A Real Place In Texas?

Netflix’s Ransom Canyonofficially has viewers hooked. The 10-episode drama, which premiered on April 17, follows the tension between three prominent ranching families in a power struggle for land in hopes of saving their beloved town of Ransom Canyon. And, of course, the drama wouldn’t be complete without a will-they-won’t-they love story sparking between Josh Duhamel and Minka Kelly’s characters.
It’s not all family challenges; the series navigates love, loss, and legacy, all with the backdrop of gorgeous Texan canyons and swoon-worthy small-town charm. You really can’t blame fans for wanting to move to Ransom Canyon and find a Josh Duhamel look-alike all for themselves.

Where is the real Ransom Canyon?
Netflix
Technically, fans who want to try to get themselves tied up with cowboys and ranching dynasties can visit the real town of Ransom Canyon. Although there are no promises that it’ll be as dramatic as the show.
The land is located in Lubbock County, Texas, just a few hundred miles west of Dallas, Texas. While warring families may not exist, it has the same gorgeous views and small-town charm. According to the 2020 census, Ransom Canyon boasts a population of 1,189 people. One of those has to be a brooding cowboy, right?
Is 'Ransom Canyon' based on the real place?
Netflix
According to Netflix and the show’s starring actor, Josh Duhamel, Ransom Canyon represents more of an idea than the actual place itself. The show is based on Jodi Thomas’s series by the same name, which similarly draws on the ideas of small-town charm and Western nostalgia to create the fictional town of Ransom Canyon.
The show’s creator, April Blair, drew inspiration from small towns all over New Mexico and Texas. And even though Ransom Canyon is very much real, the fictional version isn’t directly based on it. Instead, it’s a combination of small-town charm from all over the West.
Is 'Ransom Canyon' filmed there?
Netflix
Despite the place existing, Josh Duhamel, Minka Kelly, and the rest of the cast didn’t actually make the journey to Ransom Canyon to film the show. It wasn’t even shot in Texas. Instead, the cast and crew set up camp nearby in Albuquerque and Santa Fe, New Mexico. They even shot right on the Texas border in Las Vegas, Mexico.
Rather than hosting the glittering casinos of its Nevada counterpart, Las Vegas, New Mexico, is the home of the same small-town charm and nostalgic architecture that suck fans right into the western landscape.
It may not be the best idea to pick up and move to Ransom Canyon in hopes of having your own cowboy love story. Nonetheless, hopeless romantics and drama lovers can immerse themselves in the stories of the fictional town only on Netflix.
