Today Is National Pancake Day — Get Your Free Shortstack!
Get ’em while they’re hot! Today is National Pancake Day. Introduced by IHOP in 2006, National Pancake Day has raised nearly $20 million for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, Shriners Hospital for Children and other nonprofits so far, and this year, IHOP hopes to raise another $3.5 million. The food chain is offering customers a free short stack of buttermilk pancakes today from 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Last Pancake Day, IHOP served 6.6 million. “Every pancake we give away has a purpose on National Pancake Day,” Darren Rebelez, president of IHOP, stated in a press release. “Through the generosity of our guests and the hard work and commitment of our franchisees and their team members, we will help fund life-saving treatment and care for children in need.” All outlets in the U.S. except airport locations participate. If you are nowhere near an IHOP, you can still get your pancake fix today, right in your kitchen. Here are 15 pancake recipes, and a few are even gluten-free. Over at Life Made Simple, Natalie is whipping up pumpkin pancakes with buttered pecan maple syrup that taste just like butter pecan ice cream. Yum! These buttermilk pancakes are made with pumpkin puree and an aromatic blend of Thanksgiving spices, but what really sets them apart is the buttered pecan syrup. To make it, just dry-roast some chopped pecans on the stovetop, add butter, then stir in some pure maple syrup. Once you’ve tried it, you’ll never want plain old syrup again.
