A cookbook for the future.
In Honor of World Emoji Day, Enjoy This Recipe Written ENTIRELY in Emoji

Today is World Emoji Day, which you may or may not have known. But what you *definitely* do know is that emojis have changed the way we communicate. So while there may be a holiday for pretty much everything these days (National Taco Day and National Picnic Day come to mind), World Emoji Day holds a special place in our hearts. Which is why we are LOVING Plated‘s new take on sharing drool-worthy meals: recipes written entirely in emojis. Take, for example, this delectable recipe for grilled shrimp lettuce cups.

These light, healthy, and uber-yummy shrimp cups are simple to make and even easier to devour. But what really impresses us is the concept of making them following a recipe written entirely in emojis.

For those who need a translation, you can head over to Plated’s website to check out the traditional recipe. But as long as you know the proportions you need, why not give the emoji version a try? Just make sure to look at the original recipe for minor pieces of info, like how to add the taco mixture to the lettuce wraps. Here’s what you’ll need:
- 8 ounces shrimp
- ¼ teaspoon chili powder
- ¼ teaspoon ground cumin
- ⅛ teaspoon garlic powder
- ⅛ teaspoon dried oregano
- ¼ teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1 red onion
- 1 lime, divided
- 1 head butter lettuce
- 1 cup grape tomatoes
- 1 1/2 teaspoons Cholula hot sauce
- 1 container Chobani nonfat Greek yogurt
- 1 avocado
- 10 wooden skewers
