Hack This Half-Up ‘Do With Our Secret Styling Weapon

Half-up hairstyles are everything right now. They’re effortless while still appearing intentionally styled, and it’s easy to add a little bit of edge to them. This week, we’ve hacked a ‘do that your locks will loooove — it requires minimal product, and you can style it in about five minutes flat. We’re about to seriously mash up the French braid and the rope braid into one awesome hairstyle that packs sass and serious staying power.

STEP 1: HACK YOUR BOBBY PINS

To start this style off, we need to focus on how to get some extra holding power out of bobby pins so they keep this ‘do secure. Spritz ’em with hairspray before you use them — simple as that.

STEP 2: CREATE YOUR FRENCH BRAID

Now, begin creating a 3D French braid starting with hair in front of your ear on the left side of your crown. Braid each strand underneath the other, instead of on top, to style this upgraded take on the classic braid. This method gives your hair extra fullness and dimension, which we love! Continue the braid until you reach the end of your hair. Set the braid with those tacky (in a good way) bobby pins to keep it in place.

STEP 3: STYLE YOUR ROPE BRAID

It’s time to create your rope braid using hair on the right side of your crown! Using two separate strands, and starting with hair closest to the scalp, twist the first strand with the outside strand. Keep tension on both strands so your rope braid stays intact and holds the style. Tie the ends with a clear elastic band.

STEP 4: BRAID CROSSOVER

After that, criss-cross the braids to unite them and secure them in place with those pre-sprayed bobby pins.

STEP 5: WRAP THE ENDS TOGETHER

Finally, wrap the ends from your rope braid around the elastic band of your French braid. This hair hack is great to disguise the band and keep your style looking fresh.

There you have it! Now you know how to get this half-up style in half the time ;)
