What is the Rule of Thirds?
Have you often felt stuck between juggling your basic health needs, work, fun and friends? The Rule of Thirds recognizes that this is actually a pretty common problem for people, and calls for breaking your life into equal parts for the things that matter most. Once you do, you’ll automatically start streamlining and prioritizing your life a ton.
According to mindbodygreen, you can apply the Rule of Thirds pretty easily. “Divide your week into thirds. One-third is sleep, another third is work and the final third is what you get to create… make time to practice yoga, go for a run, cook and eat healthy meals and see people you care about.” As written in the article, keeping yourself accountable for *everything* you do within your life’s thirds can help you stick to your schedule, feel healthier and meet your goals. Just like starting a new habit, tiny changes over time will make all of the difference when it comes to being balanced and rocking out with your own rhythms. Seriously.
Why the Rule of Thirds Works Super Well
Kicking off the New Year might help you find some of the inspiration you lost last year, but resolutions can fall all too easily to the wayside as we all slip back into old patterns. Adopting the Rule of Thirds means you’re signing yourself up for major personal responsibility and taking care of yourself FIRST. Think of it like putting on your own mask before someone else’s on an airplane — you can only help others when you’ve taken care of your own needs. So much good can come from this, filling up each area of your life. In addition to better sleep, more focused work and time for the things you love and are interested in, you’ll reap the benefits of majorly improved well-being — think more energy for learning, better workouts and greater quality time with your BFFs.
So get ready to dig deep to figure out what you want, need and how you can be the best version of yourself in 2017. Sticking to your thirds will totally help you become the person, friend, teammate and #girlboss that both you and everyone else will love to be around.
