Tommy & Tuppence will be available to stream on BritBox. The show is in the early stages of pre-production right now, so fingers crossed it premieres in 2026!

The beloved Tommy and Tuppence books focus on the titular characters, who have essentially grown up together. Despite being childhood friends, it isn’t until they hit their 20s that they begin to realize their romantic feelings for one another. After finally tying the knot, we get to embark upon the newlyweds’ journey as they navigate the growing pains of being husband and wife. No matter how much they adore one another, marriage still comes with its hurdles, no?
But instead of their problems revolving around who forgot to clean the kitchen sink or why Tommy stared a little too long at the attractive new neighbor next door, Christie’s couple explores an entirely different set of obstacles… AKA, trying to crack the top crime mysteries of the century. Will this detective couple be able to solve the toughest criminal cases while at the same time navigate married life with one another? This beloved detective/romance hybrid genre will uncover that very question.

What Makes These Agatha Christie Mystery Stories Stand Out?

One of the reasons why we’re still obsessing over the Tommy & Tuppence novels all these years later is due to the way the books are constructed. Unlike most book series, which have the characters roughly staying within the same age range throughout the novels, we get to watch this couple as they grow up together over the span of decades. That means we get to watch as the two fall in love in their 20s, then explore their lives together all the way up to their 70s.
Honestly, this is the part that sells the Tommy & Tuppence stories to me most. While I love a good old-fashioned ‘will-they-won’t-they’ love story of two people in their 20s, I’m way more interested in what happens after the “happily ever after.” How does a love story evolve within a relationship where the couple has been together for multiple decades? Now this, to me, is truly interesting.
It reminds me of one of my favorite movie sagas, The Before Trilogy, which cues us in on the lives of Jesse and Celine, as they navigate life throughout their 20s/30s/40s. Yet to explore how far a couple evolves into their 70s?? And with the addition of exciting detective work added into the mix? Sign me up. I’m fully on board for this modernized TV adaptation, which has just been officially greenlit and is penned by Phoebe Eclair-Powell.
