How This YouTuber Gets Her Natural Curls Camera-Ready

If you’ve ever scoured Instagram looking for #hairinspo, then you know those girls. The ones whose hair is just, well, ridiculously perfect and absolutely amazing (cue the jelly emoticon now). How do they do it? Lucky for you, we’re getting up close and personal with those Instababes and asking them to spill their fab hair secrets.

This week’s #Hairenvy puts the spotlight on Dominque Jeffries, aka @NiqueNique321, a vlogger from Mississippi who truly embraces that “curly hair don’t care” attitude. Fed up with heat-damaged tresses, Dominique did something drastic — she cut off all her ends and never looked back. She then started a YouTube channel full of advice and inspo to help other women embrace their natural texture (can you say “hair hero?”). We got the lowdown on how she keeps her curls fresh (spoiler alert: it involves pineappling), what it takes to turn a bad hair day around and why fingers are way better than a brush.

1. What is the first thing you do to your hair when you wake up? Take my hair down from the pineapple, which is basically a loose ponytail on top of your head, and shake it like crazy!

2. Take us through the rest of your morning hair routine. Once my hair is loose from shaking it, I spritz a little water and reapply a little product to refresh my hair, if I need to. Then I tilt my head over, rake my fingers through the roots, scrunch my ends. When I’m done, I flip my head back, shake my hair again, and let the strands fall where they may.

3. What products do you swear by when you can only spend five minutes on your hair? A little dab of DevaCurl’s SuperCream ($28) or SheaMoisture’s Coconut & Hibiscus Styling Milk ($12) are real lifesavers for those busy, rushed mornings! I grab whichever one is nearby.

4. What’s your go-to tip for making your hair selfie-ready? Fluff, fluff, fluff! And then more fluffing! Sometimes I’ll use a pick for extra volume.

5. What do you do when you wash your hair — any special tricks or tips? My current regimen consists of washing my hair once a week. I aim to co-wash (aka conditioner-only washing) at least once during the week, but we all get lazy at times! I like to wash at the roots using warm water with a cleansing conditioner, not a shampoo. I love DevaCurl’s No-Poo Decadence ($22) for this. When I’m co-washing, I use DevaCurl’s One Condition Decadence ($22) all over. After conditioning my hair, I switch to cold water and rinse it out with my head tilted over. That way, some of the conditioner gets “trapped” in the middle of my head to lock in extra moisture. I also do deep conditioning treatments every other week with masques and add in different natural oils, like coconut oil and EVOO.

6. Air dry or blow dry? I prefer air drying (which I do 99% of the time) because it gives the best definition with the least amount of frizz. But if I’ve procrastinated on wash day, I’ll use a diffuser after letting my hair dry for about 20 minutes or so.

7. What’s your current go-to style, and why? Like I always say, I like my hair BIG and wild! “Curly hair don’t care” is my motto. Wash and go is almost always my daily style.

8. Favorite work hairstyle? Wash and go.

9. Favorite date hairstyle? Wash and go. (Do you see a pattern here? Lol!)

10. Do you have any before-bed or nighttime hair care secrets? If so, what are they? All I do at night is throw my hair up in a pineapple. If needed, I’ll put a dime-sized amount of oil on my ends. I also like to sleep on a satin pillowcase to prevent frizz, dryness and breakage. I even take it with me when I travel.

11. What’s the one hair product you can’t live without? Hmmm, that’s tough! But if I absolutely had to pick just ONE product, it would be DevaCurl’s No-Poo Decadence ($22) because it’s the only cleanser I use.

12. What styling tips do you have to keep your curls looking fresh? The key to keeping my curls on point is moisture. I reapply moisturizing products when needed to prolong the number of days I can go before having to wash my hair again.

13. What tools do you use on your hair? My main tools are my hands, which are the best for getting through the curls. I use my fingers to detangle my hair while wet. Other than that, I use a pick when I want to pump up the volume, a hair bonnet dryer for deep conditioning and a diffuser for those lazy wash days.

14. Do you have a specific haircut that enhances your curls? Twice a year, I get hair trims by a certified curly hair stylist. She uses the DevaCut technique to shape my hair in layers.

15. Do you ever have a bad hair day? Yes! When it’s cold, I get lazy about washing my hair. On bad hair days, I toss my hair up in a messy bun, dress it up with earrings and a little makeup and just go with it.

16. Embracing your curls is your motto, so what do you recommend to anyone who’s hesitant about going natural? I always tell people who are thinking of going natural to be patient. Results aren’t going to happen overnight. But with consistency and a little TLC, your hair can blossom. Embrace it and love it — it’s what makes you truly unique.

In case you didn’t get the memo, trailblazing’90s combat boots are back with a vengeance this fall. And for good reason. Bigger, badder, and more influencer-approved than ever, these lug-sole stompers are admired for both their don’t-mess-around appeal and their 24/7 tough-girl prowess. The advantage of being worn with mile-long supermodel legs? Not too shabby either. Scroll through for 16 Instababe-approved ways to rock your trusty Doc Martens — we like mom jeans by day and a floral slip dress by night — like a bona fide street MVP.

1. Go a Little Wild: This punk princess is low-key thriving in her teeny-tiny Matrix-worthy frames, raw-hem leopard print pants, and patent-leather combat boots. Dope AF leather beret to go with, please.

3. Fall Uniform 2.0: Brisk fall days, here we come. Up the style ante — and breathe new life into all your summertime dresses — with some OG Doc Martens (ahem, the Jadon style is our fave) and an oversized nubby knit sweater.

4. Femme Meets Punk: Too femme for comfort? Juxtapose a silk dress and classic khaki trench with platform combat boots for a DGAF ‘tude.

5. Red Haute Entrance: Strut. This boss babe’s right on the money with her sheer polka dot slip dress and coordinating red, not to mention dem boots.

11. Daytime Glamour: Black tie-appropriate attire officially includes a tie-shoulder smocked dress (THAT slit) and GI Jane-approved combat boots. TBH, we wouldn’t have it any other way.

12. Dial it Down: Rule #1: Don’t try too hard. Between her messy top knot, circle-shaped raffia bag, mixed-print dress, and thick-soled boots, this cutie nails effortless dressing.

13. Slay in a LWD: The flounce! The femininity! A dose of masculinity à la the boot du jour is exactly what the doc ordered.

14. Make a Statement: Girllll, respect is earned. This HBIC (head babe in charge) is working it in her girl power tee and distressed denim mini.

15. Test-Drive a Summer Suit: All hail the summer co-ord. For an unexpected mash-up — in the boardroom or elsewhere — ditch the power heels for a “ten-hut!” pose and a sophisticated blazer pairing that would do LaParisienne proud.

16. Mad for Plaid: Cher Horowitz-inspired plaid and a midriff-baring top? As if we would miss the opportunity to bring these beloved ’90s classics (Dr. Martens included) into fall ’18.

Millennial pink, we’ll be sad to see you go, but we’ve found a new hue to spice up our summer wardrobe. Step aside Gen-Z yellow (and millennial orange, for that matter) — lime is here to swoop in and steal the spotlight. Described by Man Repeller as a “variation of green that shuffles somewhere between acid and lime,” the polarizing hue is just getting started with early adopters like Reese Blutstein ‘gramming their latest lewks. Coincidence? We think not. (EvenQueen Elizabeth II tried it out in a neon-bright Stewart Parvin coat and Rachel Trevor hat during a recent engagement.) Should you fully commit to a head-to-toe Gumby green ensemble or opt for just a pinch of the buzzy color, scroll through to see how these 16 Instababes are going green.

1. Green With Envy: This blogger babe’s all-green-err’thang aesthetic is inspiring us to dress (err, color) outside the lines this summer.

2. Flouncy Summatime Ruffles: What heat index?! Color enthusiast Monling Lee slays the #OOTD game with her flouncy fluorescent green co-ord and futuristic sunnies.

3. Business Green:The styling here — a Maryam Nassir Zadeh gingham mini layered over an iridescent blouse — is sheer delight if we do say so ourselves.

4. Minty Fresh: It was mint to be. Instagram sensation Reese Blutstein is the epitome of cool with her oversized mint-hued sweater and spearmint skirt.

Waiting for that first G&T of the weekend 😎 Ok I might be home in my PJs already, waiting for #HugoHarrel to go down to tuck into some Netflix action 😜 This week wasn't nearly as productive as I intended it to be, you know these weeks when either your body, your mind or even both are not following the plan at all?? Well we rolled with it, we rested when we could, even chucked in some extra self-care by ways of meditation (although my heart would race and panic when I used to try it for just 5mns, now I'm hooked and need it twice a day, never thought I'd get there 😯 🎉 and it's changing my life, loving the @calm app 🙏🏾), massage (@itsseun told me about @urban_massage, I wanted to try reflexology but there was no woman available for that one, and I wasn't sure about having a man into my house massaging my feet 🤣 I love a foot massage, it makes me make weird noises though 🙈 - so I had a full body one instead and it was great) , lots of journaling, cuddles with friends and rosé (it's officially the season ☀️😎). On these slow weeks, try to extend yourself more love, care and compassion instead of beating yourself up for moving slowly, you'll get your mojo back more quickly, and there's actually more time to reach your goals than social media allows you to think 🙈 [Tap for details - will add links to outfit in my Stories, you won't believe how cheap this set is 😜]

Growing up on the Outer Banks means I've gone through my fair share of swimsuits. All it takes is one summer of surfing wipeouts, sun bathing, swimming, and hitting up the shops (because you really do everything in a bathing suit on the OBX) to know exactly which bathing suit brands are worth buying — and which are cheap enough to avoid forever. I took to social media to ask real Outer Banks locals which bathing suit brands they can't get enough of. Keep reading for all the details!

Target

Image via Target

I know y'all love Target just as much as I do — and along with their home decor, cute shoes, and comfy clothes, their bathing suit options are some of my friends' favorites. Target's got a ton of diverse and affordable swimwear options that is full of different styles, sizes, and prices. That means there's something for everyone! I'm obsessed with this Underwire Bralette Bikini Top and High Waist High Leg Extra Cheeky Bikini Bottom.

Aerie

Image via Aerie

Aerie is perfect for Outer Banks fans because it's one of the most-used bathing suit brands on the show! This store balances style with comfort and casual, and TBH half the swimsuits are cute enough to be tank tops. Their bathing suits will make you feel confident and add a pop of color to your summer wardrobe! This Smiley® String Triangle Bikini Top and Cheekiest Tie Bikini Bottom are a great place to start ;).

Old Navy

Image via Old Navy

Old Navy is a great place to shop for affordable basics, and that definitely extends to swimsuit season. Their bathing suits come in a range sizes, and they're durable, classic, and super affordable (a lot of them are under $20!). They also have just enough Americana edge to live out your '00s rom-com dreams. I can't stop looking at the Zip-Front Bikini Swim Top and High-Waisted Bikini Swim Bottoms.

Body Glove

Image via Body Glove

Body Glove is one bathing suit brand that's just as functional as it is stylish, and it's also equal parts feminine and sporty for any gal who's always on the go. The Free Flow Eli One-Piece Swimsuitis one of my favorite suits because it's so colorful and it's also supportive, which you absolutely need when taking part in a treasure hunt.

AlySwim

Image via AlySwim

If you're looking for the true Outer Banks experience, then you should grab a suit made by someone who grew up there! AlySwim is totally customizable, and a lot of the suits are reversible so you get two looks for the price of one. With trendy patterns and vibrant colors, bathing suits like the Blue Hawaiian Eva Top and Bottoms will make a bold statement.

Rey Swimwear

Image via Rey Swimwear

The bathing suits from Rey Swimwear are as classy as they come, and it feels like there are endless options for colors, patterns, and silhouettes. There are also options for longer torsos, which is such a blessing for us #TallGirls. Sarah Cameron would be all over this Marie bathing suit!

More Bathing Suit Brands OBX Locals Love

Image via Kenny Flowers

Maaji is the thing of our '90s dreams, and each bathing suit will make you feel the summer magic we crave all year long. I love the Hot Magenta Adhara V Wire Bralette Bikini Top and Sublimity Regular Rise Classic Bikini Bottoms!

Left on Friday is for the minimalists. But just because the swimsuits are simple and elegant doesn't mean they're boring — and the asymmetrical silhouette on the Shoreline Suit proves it.

Kenny Flowers immediately reminds me of Palm Royale every time I look on their site because of the old school vibe and bright colors. I NEED the Acapulco Underwire Bikini Top and High Waist Bikini Bottom!!

Lime Ricki is the place to go if you're looking for modest swimsuits that will also turn heads all summer long. The bold prints and bright colors are both nostalgic and playful, and it's also a really accessible brand. Celebrate your individuality in a suit like the Shell Stripe Ruffle-Strap One Piece.

Korni Jeane lets you mix and match different vibes to create a bathing suit that's unique to you and your personal aesthetic. I'm confident Kiara would love this Bandeau Top and All Ruffled Up Bottoms.

Another one of my favorite coffee chains’ summer menus just dropped, and I am ready to sip away! Rumors about the Dunkin’ summer menu were introduced by foodie inside source, @markie_devo last month, and it appears they were right.

The Dunkin’ summer menu got released on May 1 (just six days prior to the rumored Starbucks summer menu drop), and it looks way too yummy. I’ll have a hard time not ordering these tasty drinks and food items! Based on the success of the Dunkin’ spring menu, the new summer menu doesn't miss.

So, as things begin to heat up, let’s take a look at the *official* Dunkin’ summer menu. Here's what to order today!

When does the Dunkin' summer menu come out?

The Dunkin' summer menu came out on May 1, 2024.

Everything On The Dunkin' Summer Menu

NEW! Kiwi Watermelon Refresher

You'd think that this green drink would be matcha – but nope, it's the all-new Kiwi Watermelon Refresher! Based on the name, this drink mixes kiwi and watermelon for a super fruity and fresh sip. Dunkin' Refreshers are caffeinated with green tea, too, so some of the tea brew could shine through in the flavor. This sounds too good to not order on a sunny summer's day.

NEW! Vanilla Frosted Donut Signature Latte

Available to order hot or iced, this next drink is totally new to the Dunkin' summer menu. Their 'signature' lattes are often super sweet and topped with whipped cream and drizzle. This one will take on the flavors of a classic frosted donut, with rainbow sprinkles to boot. I simply need it now!

NEW! Blueberry Donut Coffee

Also available hot or iced, I expect the rumored Blueberry Donut Coffee to taste like a blueberry donut. Blueberry cake donuts are my absolute favorite kind, so it'll be interesting to see (and taste) how this sip lives up to the OG.

Lemonade

I find it a little odd that Dunkin' doesn't already serve lemonade, but summer seems like the perfect time to start doing so! Dunkin' will be making lemonade a permanent part of their menu on May 1. The last time they had lemonade was when they began serving the Dunkin’ Lemonade Refreshers in 2021, so it appears they're bringing it back for good.

You'll be able to order it on its own or inside their regular lineup of Refreshers (pictured above) – including the new Kiwi Watermelon one!

NEW! Green Goddess Dunkin’ Wrap

Now onto the food! The Dunkin' summer menu has three new snacks slated, and the first one is this wrap. The Green Goddess Dunkin' Wrap is made from scrambled egg whites, farro, sun-dried tomatoes, spinach, crumbled feta cheese, green goddess sauce, and wrapped in a green lavash. It looks highly similar to the Spinach Feta wrap on the Starbucks breakfast menu! 👀

NEW! Watermelon Burst Classic Donut

I'm not so sure about this one. Watermelon and donuts don't ever cross paths in my mind, but you never know, it could be delish! This donut is filled with a watermelon-flavored cream filling. I need it now!

Chocolate Chunk Cookie

Chocolate Chunk Cookie – looks like a classic! Like the Chocolate Chip Banana Bread on the Dunkin' spring menu, this rumored item looks like a conveniently pre-packaged easy snack to enjoy on the road or during your lunch break!

All The Dunkin' Summer Menu Rumors

Dunkin' fans sounded off in the comments of the summer menu rumors, sharing their thoughts about the new seasonal roster when it was leaked in April 2024.

Some Dunkin' diners aren't super thrilled with the snack selection on the leaked menu.

"Watermelon donut is wild," one person wrote. "They really need to do better with their food & snacks 😒," another said.

One user is disappointed that Dunkin' isn't doing anything overly innovative with their upcoming rumored summer menu.

"So basically blueberry and vanilla flavored coffees like they’ve had all along," they wrote. "Man they are really slacking on new flavors lately. So disappointing."

On the other hand, some Dunkin' sippers are interested in the more out-there flavors.

"Kiwi Watermelon refresher and Watermelon Burst donut both sound intriguing! Not going to lie!" one user said. "This menu isn’t bad at all I am glad they are bringing Lemonade back I love it," another echoed.
