Ariana Grande Canceled Her ‘SNL’ Appearance Due to ‘Emotional Reasons’
Ariana Grande’s world was turned upside down following the horrific attack at her Manchester concert, and two weeks ago, she lost her former love and “dearest friend” Mac Miller. Taking to Twitter on September 28, the 25-year-old opened up about her “tough month” in a series of emotional messages. And now we’re learning that she pulled out of the SNL season premiere because she needs time to heal.
The news was kept under wraps until producer Lorne Michaels told listeners of the Origins With James Andrew Miller podcast that Grande was his first choice when it came to picking a musical guest to kick off the show’s 44th season. “We had Ariana drop out for emotional reasons two days ago,” Michaels revealed. (His interview was pre-recorded.)
This isn’t the first time Grande has decided to stay out of the spotlight. Earlier this month, she opted out of attending the 2018 Emmys because, as her team explained, “Given the events of the past couple of years, Ariana is going to take some much needed time to heal and mend.” They added, “She will be staying close to home and using this period to spend time with her loved ones and work on new music without deadline. She thanks her fans for their understanding.”
As for the SNL premiere, which airs on September 29, Kanye West will take over as musical guest while Adam Driver is set to host.
