Ashley Graham is one of our favorite body positive activists, because she always uses her platform to discuss important issues. Whether she’s speaking up about body diversity on the runway or shutting down haters who criticize her workouts, Graham is trying to make the fashion industry more inclusive with each new venture. Case in point: She went completely unretouched to model her latest swimsuit collection, flipping the script on paparazzi photos meant to highlight women’s flaws in their bathing suits.
For her newest line with Swimsuits for All, the 30-year-old model was inspired by a real-life situation that so many women would dread and turned it into something body positive and beautiful. The summer 2018 campaign is called Power of the Paparazzi, and it’s all thanks to the pesky photographers that followed the models as they shot on the beaches of Miami.
Graham told InStyle.com, “When shooting this campaign in Miami, the paparazzi began following us and taking pictures. Looking at their photos sparked an idea, ‘Why not use their photos as the campaign images?’ These raw and unedited images would remind women that they are ‘flawless’ in their own right and that they already have the perfect beach body!”
Of course, the paparazzi and tabloids often take photos of celebrities on the beach hoping to hone in on their perceived “flaws” or “imperfections,” so it’s pretty badass that the America’s Next Top Model judge is turning that notion on its head.
In a statement to Glamour, she said, “This campaign is different than any other I have worked on throughout my entire career. I hope these images instill a fearless belief in everyone to be happy in their own skin and enjoy living in the moment, no matter who is watching.”
