When I first heard there was going to be a Beetlejuice sequel, my initial instinct was to roll my eyes. As a massive fan of the original movie, the idea of a half-baked follow-up seemed like a slap in the face to Tim Burton's 1988 film, which is so uniquely perfect as a stand-alone. Why touch it? If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. I think this is something we as a society have collectively learned the hard way, what with the horror that is the Sex and the City reboot, And Just Like That, as well as Disney dulling out these sleepy live-action remakes. Yawn! Where is the fresh, original content? Does such a concept even exist anymore?
But as I reluctantly grumbled my way to the theater to see the Beetlejuice sequel, something happened: I was proved wrong. Massively so. In fact, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice ended up being such a triumph that everyone in the cinema was laughing and cheering the whole way through. Despite our initial misgivings, we all collectively learned as an audience that sequel films can actually be good. Sometimes, even spectacular! By the end of Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, we instantly wanted more.
So after hearing whispers of a Beetlejuice 3, I actually squeaked with excitement. I even did the iconic Lydia Deetz dance. But the party ended as soon as I heard that Tim Burton wasn’t asked to return to the third film (yet). Um, excuse me? Beetlejuice without Tim Burton is like Disney without Mickey Mouse — it simply doesn’t work. Like, at all.

Will there be a 'Beetlejuice 3' movie?

Mike De Luca (Warner Bros. co-chairman and CEO) spoke to Deadline about another Beetlejuice sequel was being worked on "imminently."
However, when Tim Burton was clued in about the whispers of a third Beetlejuice film, the Nightmare Before Christmas creator said, "Really? Nobody told me." He added to The Hollywood Reporter, "Maybe I've been replaced."

As for whether the actors from the original film and the sequel will be involved in the third installment, there isn’t much information available yet since it’s still very under wraps.
And when it comes to Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice star Jenna Ortega, she refuses to sign on to a third film without Burton working behind the camera. “Oh, I would never," she told The Hollywood Reporter about hopping onto the project sans Burton. "I also think anybody would be really wrong to get behind that project. Without him involved, what is it? It is what it is because of Tim. There's no other film you can compare Beetlejuice to. So why would you do that? That would be a tad disrespectful."

Considering Mike De Luca told Deadline that the "ink might not be dry on the deals yet," I think it's safe to say that the film is in very, very early stages of development. Realistically speaking — and considering we're most of the way through 2025 — it's likely that we would even see a movie poster or trailer for this sequel until 2027.
That's just conjecture, though, so we'll update you as we know more!
