Camila Cabello Thought She Was Going to Die the Night Before Her Album Release
Camila Cabello’s solo career may be on the road to success, but it certainly hasn’t come easy. In addition to drama with her former Fifth Harmony bandmates — she has said she was “hurt” by their 2017 VMAs performance — she’s had some personal scares, including one that made her think she was going to die the night before her album release.
The singer dropped her highly anticipated self-titled debut album last week, and so far Camila seems to be living up to everyone’s expectations. But Cabello wasn’t even sure she would be around to see it come out.
In an interview with Beats1, the 20-year-old recounted something that happened the night before the big release, when she was staying at a hotel in New York City. Cabello told host Zane Lowe that she decided to head to bed early so that she’d be able to handle her 4am wake-up call. Unfortunately, her excitement over the next day’s events left her unable to drift off.
“My heart was beating so fast,” she said. “I would just try to go to sleep, and then I would just get my phone and I’d be like, ‘Did it come out yet?'”
This is where the story gets really terrifying: Cabello realized there was someone in her room.
“I was trying to go to sleep and this lady came in and she scared the bejeezus out of me,” the “Never Be the Same” singer said. “I thought that I was having a nightmare because she was like, ‘Hello?’ I was so scared. I was like, ‘This is it. This is it. This is my last day and I didn’t even get to see my album come out.'”
In the end, it turned out that the intruder was just a harmless housekeeper who had shown up to replace the towels. And thankfully, the star was able to see her album come out and enjoy all the perks of her hard work and massive success.
