Newlywed Maria Menounos Is Considering Surrogacy After Undergoing Brain Surgery
Maria Menounos shocked and thrilled the New Year’s Eve crowd — including her very own parents — when she and Keven Undergaro got married live on air during the (rather chilly!) revelry on Fox’s December 31 broadcast. And while it took them nearly 20 years to tie the knot, they’re certainly not wasting any time when it comes to starting a family.
Though the popular TV host has no doubt that she wants to be a mom, there’s some planning and prep that needs to be done first. After undergoing surgery last year to remove a benign tumor from her brain, she’s monitoring her health to make sure that no regrowth occurs. “I need to work with doctors to see if getting pregnant is the smartest thing,” the 39-year-old told People. “I do have some kids in the freezer, maybe we’ll implant. But if not, we’ll look into surrogacy.”
Her new husband is excited for a baby too, but adamant that they choose the best option for their situation. “We definitely want children,” he told People. “But I’m very concerned about her going through a pregnancy, and I would like to explore [using a] surrogate because her body has been through hell. I want a baby desperately, but I don’t want it to be at the risk of her health.”
That’s why the newlyweds will start exploring their options with professionals this month. “I’ll be due for an MRI to make sure nothing is changed and if it hasn’t, then we’ll weigh all the pros and cons and decide,” said Menounos. “It’s hard. I really would love to have the experience [of pregnancy] once, but I feel like God is going to tell me.”
We wish the couple all of the best!
