If You Only Buy One Makeup Product This Fall, Make It This One
Every time a beauty brand unleashes a new batch of supposed multiple-use products, I can’t help but sing “Quit Playing Games With My Heart.” Can you blame me? There are so many new beauty products, many of which are grandstanding in the store shelves claiming to be your go-to for eyes, lips and cheeks. But let’s be honest — many of those triple-threat products just fall flat. One product may not feel as good on my cheeks as it does on my lips, or vice versa. I was skeptical of the multitasking claims of three-in-one beauty products —that is, until I finally got my hands on the RMS Master Mixer™, which was sold out almost everywhere for the first few weeks after its release earlier this year. (At least it wasn’t as bad as the wait for the Colourpop Tie-Dye Highlighter!) Okay, let’s talk basics. What is this stuff?
RMS Beauty Master Mixer ($38) describes their product as a colored cream for eyes, lips and cheeks that you can use on its own or layer up with other powder or cream products to add a rich rose gold hue to any look. Yup, that’s right, ROSE GOLD. Right now, there’s only one shade available, but trust me, it’s really good. It’s one of the few highlighter shades that’s universally flattering for all skin tones.
That’s cool and all, but how do you use it?
I think the question is more “how don’t you use it?” On days when I’m heading out the door in a flash, I press just a smidge of this over my cheekbones and down my nose as a sun-kissed highlighter and over my eyelids for a subtle wash of color to brighten up my eyes. For nights when I’m getting my glam on (AKA actually putting on heels and swapping my everyday tote for a going-out clutch), I take the teeniest little scoop and mix it with some lipstick on the back of my hand. There’s something about the rose gold shade that lends a shimmering (but not sparkling!) effect to the lipstick. Even when I’ve laid down a nice brown smokey eye with powder shadows, I’ll tap just a bit of the Master Mixer on top to give the colors an iridescent effect. The Master Mixer clings comfortably to the skin for a lasting effect, but doesn’t feel tight like many cream shadows often do after hours of wear. Every week, it feels like I’ve come up with a new way to make this product the hardest working one in my makeup bag.
Alright, what else should I know?
If you’re anything like me, you might be a little skeptical about “green” beauty products, because you wonder if they can compare to your more conventional cosmetics. Well, if there’s any one product that will give you faith that green cosmetics can work just as well and maybe even better than the other guys, the Master Mixer is it. This dreamy cream is organic and formulated without parabens, sulfates and phthalates. No sketchy stuff — just pure, glowy goodness.
