It’s such a breath of fresh air when Hollywood releases original films. With all these yawn-worthy reboots and lackluster sequels coming out lately, I always find myself charmed by movies with utterly unique concepts. Roofman, starring Channing Tatum, is most definitely one of these “breath of fresh air” movies.
It already has a generous 83% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, which marks the upcoming movie as Tatum’s highest-rated role in a decade. As a big Tatum fan myself, I’m personally thrilled for Roofman. But what’s it about?

The movie tells the unique story of a gentleman nicknamed “Roofman,” who's an escaped convict. He is notorious for his robberies of McDonald's restaurants, where he’s able to access the fast food chain by drilling into the roof. Hence, his nickname.
When he escapes prison, he’s instructed to hide somewhere where no one will suspect to find him. That’s when he decides to camp out inside a Toys R Us for a whopping six months, where he manages to live that whole time.

What makes Roofman particularly thrilling is the fact that it's based on real-life events. There is, in fact, a roofman who successfully robbed multiple chains between 1997 and 2005. What makes him stand out is the fact that he’s deemed a kind-hearted robber who actually cares about the well-being of the individuals he’s robbing. Sounds like a total oxymoron, but it makes for an unforgettable character if you ask me.
