The Best Place to Watch the Ball Drop in All 50 States

Taking down the holiday decorations may be a little sad, but there’s nothing like planning a huge NYE bash to take your mind off your long-gone ornaments. Whether you’re looking to take in some fireworks, dance away 2015 or celebrate with your whole town, here are some of the best things to do in all 50 states.

Alaska: If you’re celebrating with children, the Anchorage Museum is the place to be. They’ve got a special “Noon Year’s Eve” just for the tots. But after dropping the little ones back at home, head down to the Ninth Annual Crystal Ball at Dena’ina Center for glitz, glamour and bubbly.

Arizona: Ring in the New Year with the whole fam at the Flannel Ball New Year’s Eve Party and Art Show in Phoenix. There’s something for everyone, from lawn games and photo booths to the Nopales Piñata countdown and beer garden.

Arkansas: Grab your hand maid and pour a cup of steaming tea, because The Empress of Little Rock is hosting their annual Downtown Abby Wine and Dance Party this New Year’s. California: Disneyland is always an option — especially when you can celebrate with a character meal at Disney’s PCH Grill New Year’s Eve Dinner Buffet. But if you’re in the mood for something a little less Frozen-themed, try LA’s largest free celebration at Grand Park. They’ve expanded the streets to include up to 50,000 people this year!

Colorado: Toast to another year completed while rocking out with Paper Bird and the Congress at the Oriental Theater. The band, which was recently listed in Paste Magazine’s Top 12 Colorado Bands to Watch, is ready to welcome in the New Year with sweet sounds and a rocking crowd. The show starts at 9pm.

Connecticut: Everyone knows NYE is all about the champagne, but Mohegan Sun’s Party into the New Year is doing one better with a post-bubbly breakfast buffet to really start the New Year off right. (Photo via Mohegan Sun)

Delaware: Get your live entertainment fix at Rusty Rudder in Dewey Beach on December 31. A ticket (approximately $90) gets you a dinner buffet, open bar, photo booth and a front row seat to see tons of local bands. If you don’t want to drive, the Hyatt Place is offering discount hotel rates for guests (just mention the code G-RRNY).

Florida: If you take your martini shaken, not stirred, then the James Bond New Year’s Eve Party at Enzian is definitely for you. Dress up as your fave Bond Girl (or the infamous Bond himself), and you could win a prize at this popping 21+ event.

Georgia: Chattanooga Choo Choo and The Beaters are teaming up to throw New Year’s Rocking Eve 2015. Grab a group of 10 friends (there is open seating, but 10 to a table) and dance in the New Year with an eclectic variety of music from the ’60s, ’70s and ’80s.

Idaho: All spec-taters head down to Downtown Boise for the third annual Potato Drop in front of the Idaho State Capitol. With street vendors, live entertainment and an elaborate fireworks display on the agenda, it’s sure to be a spuddy good time.

Illinois: Chicago is riddled with swanky $100+ New Year’s Eve tickets at places like Lucky Strike and the Godfrey Hotel, but for those of us who can’t afford a hefty price tag, there’s Occupy New Year’s 2016. A $64 ticket gets you access to an open bar, delicious pizza and a killer DJ. Just be sure to get your tickets in advance, as there will be no tickets sold at the door.

Indiana: Why settle for one NYE party when this ticket can get you access to three at the ninth annual New Year’s Eve Masquerade Ball at Union Station? With three parties, including everything from indie cover bands to swinging country, it’s sure to have something for every NYE party-goer.

Iowa: There are only two ways to attend The Embassy Suites’ luxe New Year’s Eve Party: Either book a room at the hotel or win tickets at Star 102.5. Kentucky: New Year’s Eve is the perfect time to get your roaring ’20s dance shoes out — especially since all proceeds from A Countdown for a Cause 2016 go toward The Joy Project.

Louisiana: Everyone knows Jackson Square is where party-goers gather on the big day. Try something a little different this year with a New Year’s Eve Fireworks Cruise with the Paddlewheeler Creole Queen. An open bar, tasty treats and a hot DJ will keep you occupied until the main event.

Maine: If you’re look for a quirky tradition to start on NYE, look no further than Steamer the Clam. That’s right, every year in Yarmouth at the First Universalist Church Steamer, the Yarmouth Clam Festival mascot is lowered from the church belfry to a crowd of NYE patrons.

Massachusetts: Get your catwalk on this NYE at Fashion Avenue News’ free New Year’s Eve Party and Fashion Show. Just make sure you dress to impress — no jeans are allowed (no matter how much you spent on them).

Michigan: Join the party at Midnight on Main for a mere $25 to enjoy everything you know and love about NYE — great food, even better bubbly, a fireworks spectacular and the largest Times Square-like ball drop in all of Michigan.

Minnesota: Take your whole family for a candlelight hike and watch the ball drop this New Year’s at the ninth annual New Year’s Eve Party at Lebanon Hills Regional Park. Just be warned: This ball drops at 7:59pm!

Mississippi: Put on your best outfit and head to The Black + White Affair at the Hilton Garden Inn (King Edward Hotel). With live entertainment, yummy cuisine and a wide variety of spirits, it’s sure to be a posh good time.

Missouri: If your fave way to ring in the New Year is on the slopes, then check out Hidden Valley’s New Year’s Eve Moonlight Session — it’s family friendly and totally New Year-approved.

Montana: Head down to the historic Wilma Theater for a performance by The Lil’ Smokes. Then ride over to the Higgins Street Bridge for the perfect viewing area for the annual Clark Fork River fireworks.

Nebraska: Join the packed crowd (there’s supposed to be 30,000+ this year) at the New Year’s Eve Fireworks Display at Gene Leahy Mall. Make sure to tune in to Star 104.5 to hear the spectacular choreographed to music over the airwaves.

New Hampshire: Toast the New Year with the whole fam at Purity Spring Resort. NYE packages include overnight lodging, discounted lift tickets, a torchlight parade and spectacular fireworks.

New Jersey: Want to watch the ball drop from the comfort of your home, but still want to get that out-on-the-town vibe? Look no further than the NYE Early Dinner at Due Mari. $75 gets you a three-course meal from 5pm to 6:30pm, giving you plenty of time to get home and bang on some pots.

New Mexico: What better way to celebrate a new year than with a champagne and vodka tasting at New Mexico Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum? $25 gets you five samples of vodka, five samples of champagne and a complimentary toast at midnight. Cheers!

New York: With NYE patrons traveling from all corners of the world to watch the famous Ball Drop at Times Square, this obviously had to make the list. North Carolina: Just because you can’t make it to New York doesn’t mean you shouldn’t get the entire New York NYE experience. Head down to Leroy Fox for A New York, New York New Year’s Eve Event. Complete with themed cocktails, a NY dinner and a transformed locale, it’s the perfect way to watch the ball drop in your home town.

North Dakota: Downtown Bismarck is the place to be this NYE. Whether you’re tasting locally brewed beer at Laughing Sun Brewing or suiting up for New Year’s Eve at the Belle, there’s plenty to do and see.

Ohio: Visit Ohio’s Wine Country Resort this NYE for a party fit for royalty. The ballroom is decked out in Winter Wonderland decor, and guests will be treated to a marvelous dinner followed by a NYE toast.

Oklahoma: There’s a little for everyone at Opening Night in Downtown Oklahoma City. Oregon: For anyone whose NYE resolution is to keep fit, start the New Year off with a festive 5K or 10K Midnight Run Along Downtown Portland. With a winter photo booth and Deschutes Brewery beer waiting for you at the finish line, there’s no better way to start off 2016.

Pennsylvania: Don’t ring in the New Year — Tube in the New Year! This all-ages event at Blue Mountain is perfect for the ski-bunny in your life. With a buffet, DJ, open bar and midnight toast, there’s something for everyone in the family to look forward to.

Rhode Island: Looking for a little romance this New Year’s? Look no further than the Hilton Garden Inn Providence Airport/Warwick. With in-room sparkling wine upon arrival and all hotel amenities at your fingertips, you just might end up using the late checkout.

South Carolina: All soul-lovers will enjoy New Year’s Eve With Sol Driven Train at The Pour House in Downtown Charleston. The show starts at 9:30pm and runs right through into 2016.

Tennessee: Kings of Leon are headlining this year’s Jack Daniel’s Bash On Broadway (New Year’s Eve in Music City). Need we say more?

Texas: The problem with NYE is not only do you want to go out on the town, but so does your sitter. Luckily Extension Sitter Services is throwing a special NYE 2016 Kids Bash at the Holiday Inn Bedford-DFW. For $35, drop your kids, ages 3-12, off before heading out to do some adult NYEing.

Vermont: Dancing shoes are a must for All That Glitters at The Vermont Tap House. And with passed hors d’oeuvres, sweet treats and a midnight toast, you’ll definitely be swinging by 2016.

Virginia: The third annual Last Night on the Town New Year’s Eve Celebration in Virginia Beach is everything you’d expect from a holiday bash. From roaming performers to Town Center’s Countdown Square (with a laser and fireworks show) this free event is great for the whole fam.

Washington: Try something different this NYE with Bollywood New Year’s Eve 2016 at the Showbox. With DJ Aanshul and DJ Kapil pumping out modern and classic Bollywood beats, this 21+ party is a sure NYE win.

Wyoming: There’s a little for everyone at the fifth annual Cheyenne New Year’s Eve Ball Drop. With Lego playstations and activities for the kids and adult festivities in the Plaza, ring in 2016 with a bang at this community-centered event.
