These Packaged Soups Are the Hottest Way to Sip Bone Broth
Welcome to our new food series called Eat It Up, where we share the kitchen gadgets and foods that we can’t cook without.
If you’ve been searching for a quick and delicious way to enjoy bone broth, look no further than Bonafide Provisions’ new line of Soups With Bone Broth ($8). These freezer-stored packages feature an organic beef or chicken bone broth base and come in classic flavors. But which are worth the slurp? Keep reading to find out.
Bonafide Provisions founder Sharon Brown, a clinical nutritionist, and her husband Reb, a chef, wanted to incorporate bone broth, which has been credited with curbing hunger and having immunity-boosting properties, into traditional soups that normally call for stock. After working through many versions, they settled on six organic options: Broccoli Cheddar, Tomato Basil, Butternut Squash, Chicken Vegetable Broth, Creamy Mushroom, and French Onion Soup. We tried the entire line and fell in love with them all, although the Broccoli Cheddar and Creamy Mushroom are our favorites.
The soups taste normal, AKA similar to canned versions you grew up on, but the bone broth base offers a rich, comforting flavor and velvety texture… not to mention more protein. One pouch, which serves one person, has roughly 15 grams of protein. We found that served solo, these soups aren’t quite enough to leave you pleasantly full. To turn it into a more satisfying meal, we suggest supplementing with your favorite pasta (ours is protein-rich red lentil rotini), brown rice, or quinoa.
