Sweet Magnolias is back for a fifth season, and boy, is there a whole lot to unpack. The fun-loving soap series, based on the best-selling books by Sherryl Woods, takes a peek at the lives of Southern BFFs, Helen, Maddie, and Dana, who have essentially been besties since childhood. Decades later, they must navigate the trials and tribulations of adulthood that threaten to disillusion their starry-eyed dreams. Fortunately, despite dealing with heartbreak, drama, and a whirlpool of stressful parenting dilemmas, the three have each other to lean on throughout it all.
What makes the series especially charming is the fictional town it’s set in, AKA Serenity, South Carolina. The Netflix hit portrays a wholesome community with gorgeous, sun-soaked backdrops and a cozy small-town charm. Yes, Sweet Magnolias season 5 is headed to Netflix! We don't have many details yet, but actress Heather Headley told Brit + Co exclusively that she's hoping for more conflict.
"They're always like, 'We want [Helen] to be happy' — I wasn't happy for the first 3 episodes!" she tells Brit + Co over Zoom. "I was one of the people that when the storyline was, Oh, she might get pregnant, I was like, 'No, I think she has everything. I think we're here to show what women go through and what women don't go through.'"
"I remember saying to [the writers], 'There are women who watch our show who unfortunately had miscarriages, and it's closer to all of us than we think,'" she continues. "It's closer in the room than we think, right? Some of us have had it. And so I remember saying to them, 'I think Helen should not have something that she wants. She should not get something that she wants.'"

Following the conservatorship controversy surrounding Britney Spears, many fans of the pop singer were appalled by her sister Jamie Lynn’s seemingly uncaring treatment of the “Baby One More Time” singer amid her harmful situation.
