Last week, we introduced you to Matteo Sa, the Italian artist using pizza as his medium, and now, we鈥檝e uncovered yet another food-dabbling artist: Say hello to Alfonso Aguirre, a Spanish artist who paints with鈥 wait for it鈥 Vino!

Yep, you read that right 鈥 this guy paints with wine. In this new YouTube video for Mode, the artist walks us through his unique process and how it came to be.

鈥淚 got started painting with wine by mere accident,鈥 he says in the video. 鈥淚 had a cup of wine and a [cup of] water from watercolor, and without looking, I dipped the brush, and I got it into the glass of wine. I kept bringing it into the drawing, and I鈥檓 like, where is this color coming from? Why is it so pretty?鈥 he remembers.

Upon realizing his happy mistake, Alfonso began manipulating the color gradients of his former drink, and much to his delight, he discovered that he was able to create some pretty wicked art 鈥 though not without a bit of trial and error.

As the artist explains it, there is no room for mistakes when working with wine in watercolor. 鈥淚t鈥檚 not like oil,鈥 he shares. If you mess up, you鈥檙e more or less back to square one. 鈥淵ou have to be very sure of what you鈥檙e doing in every moment.鈥

Though he鈥檚 upgraded his supplies 鈥 Alfonso uses only top notch wines now when creating his pieces (which we have to say, are pretty darn impressive) 鈥 the artiste says he isn鈥檛 daunted by the unforgiving medium. 鈥淭here is no going back,鈥 he says. 鈥淵ou have to be on it, always. That鈥檚 a challenge that I really enjoy.鈥
