If you think retirement homes are a drag, you’ve clearly never stepped inside the halls of Pacific View. In A Man on the Inside, Ted Danson plays a widowed elderly gent who has lost all his spark. Following career retirement as well as the passing of his beloved wife, all Charles (aka Danson) does with his days is snore on the couch and attempt boring crossword puzzles. As much as he attempts to adjust to his quieter life, there’s no denying the fact that he’s lonely.
Fortunately, he has an extremely caring daughter, played beautifully by Mary Elizabeth Ellis, who inspires him to seek out more excitement in his day-to-day life. Agreeing with her suggestion, Charles seeks out a job to kill the time. He ends up landing a gig as a private investigator, where he’s tasked with going undercover inside the Pacific View retirement facility to uncover a stolen heirloom. His boss instructs him to “lay low,” but because he ends up forming such genuine bonds with the people living inside the retirement home, he can’t help but do the exact opposite of his boss’s instructions. “It feels just like I’m in high school again,” Charles admits, as he forms thrilling friendships during his time at Pacific View.
The series was met with such praise by both fans and critics alike that it was practically a given that there would be a second season of the beloved Netflix show. Fortunately, the TV Gods have blessed us with a season 2 of A Man on the Inside, which will be premiering on the streaming platform with a whole new set of guest stars for its second run.
