This Gorgeous Tattoo Design Supports Victims of the Flint Water Crisis

We love body art that sends a message. From matching couples tattoos that are better than diamond rings to tiny ankle tattoos with big meanings, it’s probably less likely that you’ll regret getting a tattoo if you choose something that’s extra meaningful to you. And if the whole process is for a good cause, even better! That’s the idea behind tattoo artist Carrie Metz-Caporusso’s latest project, a one-day fundraiser that raised a whopping $2,200 in support of the victims of the Flint, Michigan water crisis. The city of Flint switched its water source to a polluted river that left thousands of people with only poisonous water to drink.

The response from charities, crowdfunding campaigns and individuals has been enormous. Metz-Caporusso, an artist at Lucky Monkey Tattoo in Ann Arbor, Michigan, is no exception. She designed a gorgeous blue heart with a water droplet to symbolize solidarity with those affected and offered the design to clients for $50, with all proceeds going to the Flint Child Health and Development Fund. She said in an interview that she only expected about five people to show up but that the response was overwhelming, and they ended up with 35 customers who requested the tattoo. They even had to turn away some clients!

“Flint is only about 45 minutes north of us and we just feel kinship. It could happen to any city in Michigan and if, God forbid, this happened in Ann Arbor, I would love it if somebody helped us out,” said Dana Forrester, who owns the tattoo shop, in a radio interview.

Metz-Caporusso is now offering the design for free to other artists and shops if they donate the proceeds to the cause too. If you like the design and love the cause, look around in your area to see if your local shop has picked it up!
