Why Nantucket Is Perfect for a Weekend Getaway Any Time of Year

Since we’ve already covered Martha’s Vineyard, this week we’re focusing on that rival Massachusetts island: Nantucket. Or, in the immortal words of Billy Joel, “We have charted a course to the Vineyard, but tonight we are Nantucket bound.” The omnipresent fog lends the island its nickname, the Gray Lady, and the ferry ride to Nantucket truly feels like a journey “into the mystic” (to quote another legendary songwriter, Van Morrison).

But you don’t need to be a fan of classic rock to appreciate Nantucket. This idyllic destination in New England appeals to nature lovers and cocktail drinkers alike. Though Nantucket is hailed as the anti-Hamptons, the scene at The Chicken Box can be just as debauchery-filled as anything you’ll find at the Memory Motel in Montauk.

This Nantucket versus Hamptons rivalry is captured in the Instagram feed @ackvshamps with the slogan “Where Do You Summer?” (and on the NVH prints for sale). While summer is unfortunately now over, venturing to Nantucket in the off-season is just as memorable. Fall is one of the most gorgeous times to visit the island, which is why we’re highlighting the Gray Lady for this edition of carless weekend travel. Read on for your guide to Nantucket.

Where to Stay

One of the most beautiful destinations in New England, Nantucket is perfect for a long weekend any time of year. Flights to Nantucket can be risky due to the aforementioned fog, so we recommend booking a ferry from Hyannis, Harwich, or New Bedford. Who needs a private jet (or a Blade helicopter or seaplane) to fly into Nantucket (ACK) airport, when you can watch the New England coastline above deck while enjoying a cup of rosé or a Cisco beer? (More on that signature drink later.)

There’s even a Seastreak ferry that departs from New York City for the island, but be careful: People have been known to get seasick on the journey. So take a Dramamine and hope for the best. Though the Seastreak is seasonal, from May 25 to September 3, the Hy-Line Cruises and Steamship Authority ferry lines operate year-round from the Cape and Martha’s Vineyard.

Once you spot the Brant Point Lighthouse from the ferry, you know you’ve arrived. When on the island, Ubers from the ferry are plentiful, as are the beautiful views and endless beaches on the way to your final destination. As for accommodations, we recommend renting a house, especially if you’re traveling with a group of friends. Many owners rent their homes for portions of time throughout the year, and this is often your best option. Peruse Airbnb for a classic Nantucket-style shingled house (like the one pictured above).

If you’d rather enjoy the amenities of a hotel, we like The Pineapple Inn and Summer House India Street. The White Elephant Hotel is probably the most expensive, but the luxurious waterfront resort (with its cottages and spa treatments) is one of the poshest, most romantic spots on the island.

What to Do

Summer kicks off with the annual Figawi race over Memorial Day weekend (which is named after sailors who got lost in the fog during the first race in 1972 and wondered aloud in their Boston accents, “Where the f*** are we?”). This origin story may be local lore, but more than 40 years later, you and your friends may wonder the same thing while navigating downtown Nantucket on this notoriously busy weekend. You should plan on skipping the big holiday weekends during the summer if you aren’t interested in crowds.

Luckily, as we’ve mentioned, Nantucket isn’t just for summertime. The annual Christmas Stroll (held on the weekend of November 30 to December 2 this year) is a picture-perfect holiday experience, filled with carolers, hundreds of Christmas trees, and an abundance of cheer (and seasonal cocktails). In the spring, the Annual Daffodil Festival will be held April 26-28, 2019. The festival celebrates the end of winter with art shows, an antique car parade and, of course, the Annual Nantucket Daffodil Show.

But fall in Nantucket is, in our opinion, the best time of year. The beaches are slightly less crowded, though the ocean is still warm — or, warm for Massachusetts (if you’re a fan of the Caribbean, expect to freeze). The island colors come to life as the leaves change, and the crisp morning air is ideal for setting out on a long hike or bike ride (activities made for your Instagram feed).

Love being out on the water? Book a fishing charter with Bill Fisher Tackle, learn how to hang ten at ACK Surf School, or sign up for kitesurfing, wake-boarding, or hydro-foiling lessons at Next Level Watersports (they recently partnered with the Westmoor Club, a historic members-only club near Brant Point). Speaking of the open seas, before people were wearing whale pants on Nantucket, they were actually hunting for whales. Learn about the history of Nantucket at the Whaling Museum, and explore the fields and beaches around the village of Sconset for a glimpse into what this old whaling capital might have looked like before it became a popular tourist destination.

As far as beaches are concerned (it is an island after all), we recommend Nobadeer, Smith’s Point, Ladies, and Surfside. Drive on the beach at Nobadeer (pictured above) and spend an afternoon watching the planes fly by overhead. Nicknamed “Brobadeer,” this beach is one of the more popular on the island, so you’re likely to run into friends — or make new ones.

Eat lunch at Millie’s before heading out to Smith’s Point on Madaket Beach with a cooler of beverages and a fishing rod: Atlantic bonito start appearing in the surf in late July or early August. But you don’t need to be a fisherman to appreciate this part of the island — the path to the beach is dotted with roses in the summertime, and the sunrise at Smith’s Point is one of the most beautiful in the world.

If you’re visiting over the holidays, go to Smith’s Point at dawn on New Year’s Eve to greet the sunrise from one of the easternmost parts of America. To catch the sunset, you’ll want to be at the Great Point Lighthouse for one of the most Insta-worthy snapshots on the island.

Take advantage of the abundance of bike paths and explore the island’s beaches the old-fashioned way (AKA the way you got around before you had your driver’s license). Bike to Surfside Beach (and order lunch from the new Beach Shack and Taco Truck) or navigate the sandy dirt roads of the more secluded and rugged Ladies Beach.

Where to Eat and Drink

Ladies Beach is our personal favorite beach to visit, not only for its beauty but also for its proximity to Bartlett’s Farm (pictured above). The sandwiches at Bartlett’s are the perfect post-beach pick-me-up, ideal for fueling up before heading to nearby Cisco Brewers. A very popular scene in the summertime (with the long line to prove it), this brewery is a lot more laid-back in the off-season. If you grew up in New England and want to see everyone you ever went to high school with, go there on an afternoon and try to avoid the “Panic at the Cisco” — a potent mixture of claustrophobia and social anxiety.

Bartlett’s is also the best market to visit if you’re planning on having dinner in one night (many of the restaurants — though worth it — tend to be on the pricier side). Order one of the farm’s excellent homemade pies (and pesto spreads) before stopping at 167 Raw to pick up fresh fish or bourbon beef sirloin tips to prepare for dinner.

For breakfast on the go, order the (sinfully delicious) chocolate and sugar donuts at The Downy Flake. If you’re looking for a sit-down brunch, opt for Black-Eyed Susan’s, located right in the heart of town on India Street. Afterward, grab an iced coffee at Corner Table and explore the shops and restaurants. If it’s a rainy day, put your name in at Met on Main for lunch — though it tends to be busy, the cozy atmosphere was made for camping out at during a storm. And if your plans involve the beach, the pizza at Oath and the sandwiches at Fresh are both good options.

Want to splurge on a nice dinner out? Order the striped bass or scallops at Ventuno or sushi at Lola 41 (fish, unsurprisingly, is always a reliable choice here). The bar scene at both restaurants is pretty lively, so plan on staying for after-dinner drinks (and visit the bar out back at Ventuno once you finish eating). Cru is more Hamptons-esque (read: dinner is expensive), but the fun nightlife scene is definitely worth checking out.

Though it’s nearly impossible to get a table there, Nautilus lives up to the hype. The restaurant starts taking reservations at noon the day of, but if you’re unable to secure a reservation, try your luck at the first-come, first-serve bar. If you’re into tequila cocktails and small plates, then go to Proprietors (and order the Shishito peppers).

Now, onto where to imbibe. Spend an evening hanging out beneath the twinkling lights of Tree Bar (where there is actually a tree in the middle of the bar). This local favorite, located next to the restaurant Town, is more low-key than The Chicken Box or Straight Wharf (though they too have their charms).

For our next choice, we’re bringing it back to Billy Joel with The Club Car, a piano bar where a singalong to “Piano Man” is a rite of passage on a trip to Nantucket. Located in a retro railway car, the bar has a friendly, laid-back atmosphere and slightly older crowd — though all ages are known to partake in the revelry.

In terms of live music, The Chicken Box is an iconic institution in Nantucket. With an outdoor patio, live bands, pool tables, and a raucous dance floor, this bar is the very definition of debauchery. Located further from town than many of the other bars (which are walking distance from one another), The Chicken Box requires a certain level of commitment — and whether it be ordering a drink at the jam-packed bar, dancing near the front of the crowd, sticking it out in an endless line, or getting up on stage, we believe in you.

The Straight Wharf offers a similarly fratty vibe, though with less dancing. Luckily Cru, Straight Wharf, and the Gazebo are all right next to one another, so you can decide which atmosphere you prefer as the night goes on.

Or you can sidle up to the Gazebo on a Sunday afternoon and order a mudslide to pretend that Monday doesn’t exist. Just don’t be surprised if you run into like-minded travelers and miss your ferry. Nantucket may be a hard destination to get to, but it’s even harder to go bACK home.

Thanks to Challengers and The Watchers, I can already tell 2024 is going to be a year of shocking movies (and shockingly good movies), and that trend is going to continue thanks to Verity & Colleen Hoover. While It Ends With Us might be the most popular Colleen Hoover book, Verity is arguably the craziest, and The Hollywood Reporter just confirmed that a movie is officially in development! While we wait for more news, browse the Colleen Hoover merch you can wear to opening night ;).

Is there a movie about the book Verity?

Image via Amazon

Yes, a movie based on Colleen Hoover's Verity is officially on the way! The movie's in development at Amazon MGM Studios (the studio behind Florence Pugh's A Good Person and Zendaya's Challengers). Hillary Seitz is currently writing the script for the film, and Eat the Cat's Nick Antosca and Alex Hedlund are producing.

What is Verity about?

Image via Vlada Karpovich/Pexels

In Verity by Colleen Hoover, Lowen Ashleigh is a writer struggling to make ends meet. That is, until she's offered the job of a lifetime by Jeremy, husband to the ultimate it-girl author, Verity Crawford. The thriller writer is no longer able to finish the remaining books in her series, and Jeremy wants Lowen to pick up where she left off. While Lowen is over the moon to step in (both into the job and their huge family estate), a secret manuscript and family secrets lead Lowen to realize Verity's hiding a lot more than she's letting on. B+C editor Haley Sprankle says this is one of the craziest books she's ever read, and I know this is definitely going to be one of the craziest movies we've seen!

Who's in the Verity cast?

Image via Mike Coppola/Jon Kopaloff/Dia Dipasupil/Getty Images

Since the movie is just now in development, we don't have an official Verity cast list yet. But considering It Ends With Us is starring beloved actors like Blake Lively, Justin Baldoni, and Jenny Slate, I'm confident the cast of Verity will feature some incredible names.

Popular fancasts for Verity include You's Victoria Pedretti or The White Lotus' Alexandra Diddario as Lowen, Rosamund Pike or Margot Robbie as Verity, and Shia LaBeouf or Theo James as Jeremy. Without a doubt, the cast of Verity needs to be warm and welcoming at first glance, but also have an unexpected edge that reveals itself as we move through the story.

One Reddit user points out that the characters need to offer "just toxicity but also feigned innocence," and each of these actors do exactly that, which makes them incredible picks for the movie. If Blake wasn't already in It Ends With Us, I know she'd do a great job because she proved her thriller acting chops in A Simple Favor!

When did Verity come out?

Image via Dimitrios Kambouris/Getty Images for TIME

Colleen Hoover self-published Verity in 2018, and in 2021, the book was acquired by Grand Central Publishing. It sold more than one million copies in 2023, and has more than 340 thousand Amazon ratings and over two million Goodreads ratings. Talk about a hit!

What movie is similar to the book Verity?

Image via Lionsgate

If you love thriller books like Verity, then I'd recommend checking out other relationship-centric thrillers like Gone Girl, Rebecca, and A Simple Favor. For period drama fans, I cannot recommend Will Poulter and Lucy Boynton's Why Didn't They Ask Evans enough!

Follow us on TikTok and YouTube for the latest entertainment updates, and check back here for new info on Verity & Colleen Hoover's other books!

Planning summer vacationhas me thinking about stylish duffel bags and small rolling suitcases so much that I almost forgot about all the lack of airplane etiquette that comes with traveling. I've briefly mentioned an overzealous passenger who swore an overhead bin space belonged to him before, but that's not the only weird and downright inconsiderate behavior that can happen during a flight.

It's just a solid reminder that all the personal prep in the world can't keep other people from getting in the way. There's always at least one person who seems to think you want their feet propped up by you, and we can't forget about the person who's impatient to get to their seat as if there aren't other passengers on the plane. To avoid making the mistake of being inconsiderate or careless, I'm sharing a list of 9 offensive things to avoid while flying. And with that, welcome to Airplane Etiquette 101!

Airplane Etiquette Lessons:

1. Don't Complain That Someone Gets To Board Before You

When you're booking your flight, you usually can choose your seat assignments based on the ticket that you're purchasing. You're usually placed in different boarding groups as a result so please don't think someone is out to get you if you're placed in groups 4-6. All this means is that you purchased an Economy ticket that's placed you in a middle or aisle seat, or you may not have a boarding number.

Assuming someone shouldn't board before you based on their appearance or your annoyance isn't going to change what's on the ticket you purchased.

2. Don't Worry About Why Someone's Flying First Class

This one feels self-explanatory, but here goes: It's not anyone's business why someone is flying first class. Their job could've purchased the ticket, or they may have felt like splurging for once. It's not up to us to look at someone, judge their appearance, and say things like, "They just let anyone fly first class these days."

It's classist and — not to mention — childish.

3. Just Cooperate With The Flight Attendants, OK?

We've all been on a flight where at least one person decides they're not going to listen to the flight attendants onboard. This usually looks like refusing to temporarily turn off their cell phones, having their headphones in during important demonstrations and announcements, or being told to calm down if there's ranting involved.

They want to make sure everyone will be safe, including you.

4. Never Make Snide Comments About Parents Traveling With Kids

At the same time, being an asshole to parents who are traveling with kids just because you "really don't like kids" isn't going to earn you brownie points. This idea that children shouldn't be in public spaces when I'm sure someone travelled with us is wildly hypocritical and whiny.

A child may end up crying because their ears are popping or the plane is experiencing some turbulence. I highly doubt that they took one look at you and decided you were going to be the person they wanted to piss off.

5. Please Stop Repeatedly Elbowing Your Seat Mate

Respecting someone's personal space is one of the greatest forms of respect in public. You could be waiting to board the plane or you can be sitting in your assigned seat or you can feel comfortable one you're sitting down. Whatever the case may, continuously elbowing the passenger next to you isn't going to go over well.

6. Don't Open The Window Cover If The Person Actually Sitting By It Closed It

This really boils down to respecting someone's personal space. If the person sitting by the window has it closed, ask them if they mind opening it. Please don't reach over them to open it yourself because it shows a disregard for their personal space and, possibly, their preference.

This used to happen to me all the time when I was younger until I finally asked someone what they were doing. It's amazing how startled people are when you ask them a simple question because some people genuinely don't believe they're doing anything wrong.

7. Stop Blowing Your Nose Loudly In Your Seat Mate's Ear

The first time I flew to California, I wondered how I was going to survive being on a plane for five hours. I figured I'd be okay with reading a couple of books and taking a nap. While I did read, the nap didn't happen thanks to the person sitting next to me.

This person blew their nose the entire flight and balled up their countless napkins before placing them near my elbow. I couldn't even use my armrest because they insisted on elbowing me throughout the flight. Take it from someone who's been subject to this, don't be this person. It's really aggravating.

The solution? Just make your way to the bathroom and blow your nose to your heart's content. That way, you're not bothering the people around you, plus there's a trash can right there for your leftover tissues!

8. Absolutely NO Burping Or Passing Gas — Especially Without Saying Excuse Me Afterwards

Sigh. Please, just don't. If your body has to release gas, the least you can do is say "Excuse me," when seating on a plane that contains over 200 people. It's not like you can open a window to get rid of the scent that may come along with your body's gas so people will be aware of it if it's particularly, well, smelly.

Much like the tissue situation, just take a trip to the bathroom and handle things alone, in a closed room, away from other people.

9. No More Rushing People When It's Time To Deplane

Again, there are other passengers on the plane, so everyone will have to wait to exit it. It'll eventually happen, but rushing other people isn't going to make you leave any quicker. You may actually get a few dirty looks or hear some choice words if you're not careful. Please just sit back, relax, and make your move when it's actually your turn.

What do you think are some offensive things people can do while flying? Let us know in the comments!

Personal style is personal for a reason. Whatever you wear is a complete reflection of who you are, and this is especially true for what shoes you slip into every day. Everyone’s got their go-to sandals, but sneakers are an entirely different game, I tell ya.

If your fave footwear brand is New Balance and you just so happen to be in the market for some squeaky-clean sneaks, I’ve basically done all the research for you to help you find your perfect pair. This list of the most popular New Balance sneakers details not only each style’s practicality, but their personality, too.

Ahead, find your perfect New Balance sneakers – based on your vibes!

New Balance 9060: The ‘Fit Flexer

If you just can’t resist dressing to the nines every single day, the New Balance 9060s will fit right into your fashionista flair.

These “proudly futuristic” New Balance sneakers deliver on Y2K aesthetics beyond compare. The wider base is reminiscent of Nike Shox – very tech-y and otherworldly. The upper part is made from mesh and suede, supplying a super elevated vibe.

The white and cream white coloration is so easy to pair with most every ‘fit. They’ll match with cargo pants, vintage jeans, or even mini skirts and denim shorts.

Reviewers of the New Balance 9060 are glad they invested in this $150 shoe because it's so versatile.

One reviewer toted the 9060’s for fitting into “all aspects” of their lifestyle. Another said that the arch supports “unreal,” so though they’re more fashion-forward than other New Balance kicks, they’re still uber-comfortable for a range of activities.

New Balance 990: The Thrift Shopper

The New Balance 990s are straight-up dad sneakers to the core, so if you gravitate towards the thrift store (or all things vintage-y), you’ll find that they go swimmingly with most outfits and will stand up to long thrift trips.

While they were originally manufactured for running (and they still are), the 990s scream streetwear to me. They appear more elevated than your average athletic running shoe, thanks to the smooth pigskin and fine mesh.

The inside is fitted with a bouncy FuelCell midsole cushioning, and the shoe is available in 4 different widths. The range!

The New Balance 990s are very similar to the New Balance 993s, which is less performance-based.

New Balance 574 Core: The Weekend Warrior

Whether you're hitting the club or the farmer’s market on the weekends, you want to be comfortable (I mean, who doesn't?). The New Balance 574 Cores are made for the weekend warriors.

New Balance describes this signature shoe as “uncomplicated, rugged, durable, and comfortable.”

Though the 574s are pretty basic, they’re earned themselves icon status. You’re sure to see at least one pair when you go out.

The outer layer is made from suede and mesh materials dotted with 100% recycled polyester details.

New Balance 550: The Sneakerhead

These New Balance sneakers aren’t just black and white. They’re “sea salt” with “gray matter” and “magnet.” So yeah, if you consider yourself overly particular about your sneakers, the New Balance 550s are the shoe for you.

These were revived from the late 80’s and early 90’s then re-released full-time in 2021, and they’ve been a modern fan-favorite ever since.

The flatter soles on these sneaks mean they’re not as practical for running or walking long distances, but since they have a history with basketball, you might be able to rock ‘em on the court. More than anything, they definitely give basketball vibes, which is perfect for any streetwear ensemble.

The mixed materials and chunky approach to the classic New Balance logo give these an unmistakable air.

According to New Balance, these best fit people with an average arch height. The thick sole and cushy ankle padding work the hardest to support your feet, rather than an arched insole.

New Balance 530: The Gym-Goer

The New Balance 530s are giving Erewhon baddie. They’re giving I drink smoothies for breakfast. They’re giving I live and breathe pilates.

The stark white colorway of these sneakers reminds me of the clean girl aesthetic, and they’re so pretty, you may have a hard time getting them dirty.

Though very stylish on the outside, it’s what’s on the inside that counts with the New Balance 530s. They’re fitted with an ample midsole section that cushions and compresses your step.

New Balance Fresh Foam: The 10K Steps A Day-er

For the more athletic among us (hello, hot girl walks!), the New Balance Fresh Foam sneakers are the way to go. They’re designed especially for walking and running, so you can count on them to be comfy.

They have an extra-soft cushioning for a cozy step, and every aspect of the footbed is intended to stabilize the foot.

This shoe especially supports walkers or runners with the tendency to step heel first, a bonus co-signed by the American Podiatric Medical Association – this pair received their Seal of Acceptance.

The upper part of the shoe is made of mesh, so it’s highly breathable, even on hot days. They’re great for high arches, too!

I'm no stranger to romance and smut books — thanks to my sister's secret stash — but I've finally given in to the "romantasy" genre that's floated around BookTok lately. And yet again, my sister is at the center of my newfound reading interest, gifting me (voluntarily this time) Fourth Wingand Iron Flame by Rebecca Yarros. I know I may be a little late to the party, but these books are dominating my reading interests this summer. It's like I just can't get enough of all the romance, fantasy, challenges, and spicy scenes!

If this sounds like you, here are the top 6 romantasy books to jump start your journey into the genre. Just be sure to sit in front of a fan while reading some of them, though — they can get pretty hot and spicy! 🥵

The Best Romantasy Books

Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros

*Sigh* Where do I start? This book squeezed my heart and cradled it at the same time. It also stoked an inner fire that felt eerily similar to a couple of scenes in the book that I've bookmarked 👀.

Meeting Violet Sorrengail was like peeling back the layers of thoughts I had about myself as a child. She initially thinks she's too fragile to be a gifted dragon rider like her siblings Brennan and Mira, but her mother — General Sorrengail — isn't easily swayed. So, off Violet goes to train or die trying.

From enemies who are more than willing to kill her at a heartbeat to developing a deep bond with two dragons — something that's unheard of — Violet finds herself realizing she's more powerful than she's given herself credit for.

Iron Flame by Rebecca Yarros

I'm still trying to make sense of the way Iron Flame took my emotions on the wildest ride. Although I'm still recovering and yearning for more, I have to commend Rebecca Yarros for giving us two of the best Romantasy books of our time.

When we catch up with Violet Sorrengail again, she's managed to enter her second year at Basgiath War College without dying. Although she's a lot more resilient than she gives herself credit for, she knows there's still so much to learn.

The lessons she's learning are harsher and it seems like she's still being targeted for several reasons. As she tries hard to navigate the things she needs to learn in order to survive, she begins realizing there's an internal threat that's far greater than anyone could've imagined.

It'll take all of her allies, her dragons, and her greatest love to eliminate this threat. The problem is that nothing will ever be the same once it's all said and done.

Deep Is The Fen by Lili Wilinson

If you're looking for a romantasy book that's a little less spicy, Deep Is The Fen is a great read!

It centers around Merry's reluctant interactions with the magic she's been trying so hard to stay away from. When she finds out that her best friend Teddy is joining the Toadmen, she makes it her personal mission to stop him. What she doesn't think anyone knows is her ability to see the swirling magic that surrounds all life forms.

It's this same second sight that comes in handy as she joins forces with her sworn enemy Caraway Boswell. Together, they attend the famed Toad ritual in Deeping Fen and it's only until it's too late that Merry realizes the Toadmen are more sinister than she thought.

And they've been waiting for her.

The Midnight Bargain by C.L. Polk

If you have a taste for more magic, you'll love reading The Midnight Bargain.

Unlike our heroine in Deep Is The Fen, Beatrice Clayborn embraces that she's able to use magic, but she has keep it hidden lest she be confined by a 'marital collar.' If you just shuddered, I'm here to tell you it's as bad as it sounds.

Our dear Beatrice wants to become a Magus, but her family is more concerned with making sure she's prepared to secure an amazing marriage. In other words, women aren't supposed to be able to wield magic as powerfully as men. There's also the fact that her family isn't exactly wealthy so her getting married would truly help them.

Still, Beatrice decides to keep pursuing a desire to become a Magus though her plans are almost ruined when another sorceress steals the one thing that'll secure her position. Desperate to have it in her possession again, Beatrice does a bit of conjuring that leads her to a crossroads.

Will she choose her dreams over her family's future or will she give up everything — magic, who she is at her core, and her goals — to save them?

The Hemlock Queen by Hannah Whitten

I highly recommend that you read The Foxglove King before starting this book, but it's on the list because it's my favorite out of the series!

The Hemlock Queen picks up after the twisted king August has died, but his influence is still felt among the royal court. They're not exactly thrilled that Prince Bastian and the trusted Lore are trying to change what they've become used to, creating a lot more unruliness than they were anticipating. It's in the midst of this that Lore can sense a coldheartedness growing in Prince Bastian that wasn't there before.

As time passes, something begins beckoning to Lore to pay more attention to things around her. It wants her to find the truth about herself and what's in front of her.

She'll have to race against the time to find the answers before she loses Bastian and everything else she loves.

The Hanging City by Charlie N. Holmberg

Lark has spent years hiding from her overly domineering father and hasn't found a place to call home yet. The thing that's kept her safe is her ability to cause anyone to feel fear in her presence which has come in handy. With no other options, she decides to seek refuge among the trolls in Cagmar.

She's quickly accepted into their society because they realize she's not like most humans that are in Cagmar. The only rule she has to follow is to never kill a troll even though the most powerful one utterly despises her for being human.

She'll have to learn how to survive in a brand new way while figuring out things about herself, her past, and the family she grew up in.
