The 6 Most Iconic Thanksgiving TV Episodes of All Time

The best things around the holidays are the things that are comforting and familiar. To be surrounded by friends, family, tradition and good food is the best part of the season. So, in the spirit of all things warm and cozy, we rounded up six of the best Thanksgiving episodes from our favorite TV shows. Whether you’re into old-school Full House shenanigans or the modern mishaps of Modern Family, these are the six shows that will make you laugh through all the (inevitable) holiday mishaps this weekend.

1. Full House on Amazon: We look back at season one of Full House with fond memories — mostly for this iconic episode wherein Joey constantly announces the arrival of “the miracle *cue trumpet sound* of Thanksgiving. “It’s not about how good the dinner turns out; it’s the fact that you even tried to roast a turkey. (Photo via Warner Bros.)

2. Boy Meets World on Amazon: After learning about tribal prejudice in Africa, Cory and Shawn decide to combine family celebrations of Thanksgiving. The result is a touching but, of course, funny take on how different families celebrate in different ways. Reaching across the table is the new reaching across the aisle. (Photo via ABC)

3. Friends on Netflix: You didn’t think we’d make it through this list without mentioning this episode, did you? It’s the one where the gang relives terrible Thanksgivings of the past and Monica somehow gets a turkey on her head. Classic. (Photo via NBC)

4. How I Met Your Mother on Netflix: Everything Thanksgiving is a great opportunity to honor tradition. Our favorite tradition? Slapsgiving from HIMYM. The episode that started it all — and forever struck fear into Barney’s heart — is our favorite Thanksgiving episode from the nine-season run. (Photo via CBS)

5. Modern Family on Amazon: It’s always nice when people pitch in and offer to help, but it can be impossible to know whether or not they’ll follow through. This hysterical holiday episode of Modern Family sees the clan end up *somehow* with three turkeys at the Thanksgiving table. At least there’s plenty of leftovers… (Photo via FOX)

6. Gilmore Girls on Netflix: If you’re overbooked this Thanksgiving, just consider Lorelai and Rory, who celebrated four Thanksgivings in one day. Of course things go wrong, as they do with everybody’s Thanksgiving. It’s probably one of the most relatable episodes around holiday time. (Photo via Warner Bros.)

May is Small Business Month and it’s the perfect time to recognize small business owners' incredible contributions to their communities — and how they benefit from community support in return. I had the opportunity to sit down with our friends Stephanie Cartin (Co-founder, Entreprenista) and Jenny Shum (General Manager, Chase Ink) to discuss how female small business owners can thrive in entrepreneurship this month (and beyond!), and their advice was invaluable.

Read on for their tips and thoughts on the power of community, recognition, and support for female-owned businesses.

Invest In Your Network

Image via Entreprenista

Through initiatives like Entreprenista and B+C'sSelfmade, it’s easier than ever to join a network of like-minded business owners. The real power, however, comes from investing in those relationships. Stephanie notes that "You don’t have to do it alone and you do not have to know everything from day one when you start your business. There are a tremendous amount of resources and support available. The best thing you can do is surround yourself with a community that will help you — and be open to receiving their guidance and support."

We couldn't agree more: building such bonds will translate to creating meaningful connections that can last well into the future, and help you succeed along the way.

Know What Resources Are Available To You

Know What Resources Are Available To You: When it comes to resources, Jenny suggests leveraging Chase's financial expertise and resources, which include education, coaching, and banking solutions. She explains that "We understand it's very difficult to find resources. No one gets a handbook that says this is exactly what you need to do to get started, especially for minority-owned and women-owned businesses. The infrastructure and systems in place may not be robust, or you might not have the right network of people who have experience starting businesses, so we [at Chase Ink] are very focused on being part of the community."

Develop A Support System

Image via Entreprenista

Whether it's reaching out to other female business owners or finding a mentor who can offer advice and guidance, having a solid support system is invaluable when starting and running a business. Stephanie emphasizes "The world of entrepreneurship is so multifaceted; it touches all geographies and all industries. And because of this, it’s the perfect vehicle for furthering female empowerment. The more women entrepreneurs there are, the farther reaching our influence and representation can go. The reality is there are still a lot of doors closed to women in many industries — tech, healthcare, real estate, and finance, to name a few — but if more women are encouraged to enter entrepreneurialism, then they can pave new paths to innovation and impact in these spaces."

Streamline Your Operations

Taking the time to streamline and automate your business processes not only saves you time and money but also allows you to focus on other aspects of your business. Jenny recommends seeking out services that can reduce paperwork and help simplify operations so that you can focus on pursuing your passions and the things that matter to you the most. "Small businesses are very complex. They're not all the same. They all have unique circumstances and they all serve different segments of customers. Our goal [at Chase Ink] is to understand business owners at a very personal level, what needs they have, and how to best deliver a portfolio of products and services that best suit the needs of businesses at any stage of their journey."

Take Time To Balance Business And Self-Care

Image via Entreprenista

Striking the right balance between work and life outside of it can be a challenge, but it’s essential for your mental health and success. Stephanie notes "Being able to delegate in business and my personal life has been key. I am very clear about what my strengths are and where my time should be spent and I am also very aware of what I am not great at. I spend my time doing the things I am great at and enjoy and delegate things that I am not great at and that someone can do much better than I can do and more efficiently."

Recognize Your Achievements

Taking time to celebrate your successes, big and small, is an important part of your business journey. Find ways to highlight your hard work, whether it’s through awards programs like Entreprenista's Entreprenista 100, presented by Chase Ink, or simply taking time to pause and appreciate what you’ve achieved.

Stephanie drives home the importance of this for female business owners in particular. "The number of women entrepreneurs is increasing worldwide, however, recognition is still lacking. Women own nearly half of the businesses in the U.S., raking in trillions of dollars and employing millions of people, and yet, many women continue to face significant obstacles when it comes to starting and scaling their own businesses. We created The Entreprenista 100 Awards, presented in partnership with Chase Ink, to shine a much-deserved spotlight on the extraordinary achievements of female entrepreneurs and help to elevate the women-led entrepreneurial community. We know firsthand how winning awards can help accelerate business growth and credibility, and we are thrilled to be able to help propel these businesses forward."

It’s no surprise to us that female entrepreneurs face unique challenges when it comes to starting and running their businesses, but now more than ever we also have tremendous potential and access to resources that can help us succeed. If you’re a woman business owner, remember to leverage your network, and with the right support system in place, your small business is sure to shine!

We're about to swap all of our checkerboard for mermaidcore, thanks to Disney's live action remake of The Little Mermaid. Starring Halle Bailey as Ariel (the little mermaid in question), the film hits theaters on May 26 and follows Ariel as she swaps her tail for legs to venture into the human world. Ariel is sassy, bright, and basically has vocal cords of gold. The “A World Reimagined” featurette gives us a whole new look into the film.

The Little Mermaid | A World Reimagined

Not only do we get a new glimpse at Bailey as the titular character, but we also get a look (or, rather, a listen) at some new The Little Mermaid songs. In addition to the tracks we already know and love, Alan Menken (who's behind the original cartoon's soundtrack) and Lin Manuel Miranda, the genius behind In the Heights and Hamilton, are giving us a few brand new songs too!

Perhaps the most exciting news is that you can listen to the soundtrack for The Little Mermaid right now! Play it on Apple Music or on Spotify, and if you hear us singing "Under the Sea" all day...no you don't.

Ah, pizza.

In its simplest form, pizza is carbs, cheese, and tomato sauce – but really, it’s so much more than that. Pizza’s a shapeshifter, molding and twisting into various shapes, sizes, and thicknesses. Pizza is obliged to find friends in a plethora of toppings like bell peppers, mushrooms, pepperoni, red onion… the list goes on and on and on. Pizza is agreeable with practically everyone, not only because it’s gotten the plant-based and gluten-friendly treatments, but because it’s just damn good. But where *exactly* does our favorite greasy midnight snack come from? What’s its story?

We’re diving into food histories to fuel the curiosity behind the foods that fuel you. Stay tuned for more!

The Early Days of Pizza

Flatbreads were fetch for centuries – they were part of the poor man’s diet since they were simple and easy to scarf down.

Pizza’s story begins in Italy – Naples’ urban sprawl in the late 18th century resulted in massive population growth, especially for lower-class populations that craved savory pies. Lower-class workers needed to get their hands on cheap, good food, and pizza was the definite answer. Well, sort of. It wasn’t exactly pizza yet – think thin, more flatbread-y discs with oil and limited toppings.

Pizza wasn’t really pizza until late 18th century Italians slapped some tomato sauce on the flatbread. And thank god for them, because otherwise we might’ve not known the great classic pizza. After that, the rest of Europe was fairly hesitant to adopt pizza, since they believed most fruits in the tomato family were poisonous. Slowly over time, this belief evaporated and pizza spread even wider.

The very first pizza flavors that came about were absolute classics: the pizza marinara and pizza margherita. The marinara got slathered in tomato, oregano, garlic, and extra virgin olive oil. You’re likely familiar with margherita’s iconic build – basil, tomato, and mozzarella cheese. That’s the beauty of pizza. It can be customized in endless ways!

Pizza in America

Photo by Polina Tankilevitch / PEXELS

America’s first encounters with good old ‘za didn’t happen until the late 19th century when Italian immigrants arrived with their cuisine. Based on a number of conflicting accounts, it’s unclear whether the first U.S. pizza shop was in Chicago or New York. Despite the ongoing battle of which is better between the two, we’re glad both styles of pizza exist.

Soon enough, U.S. pizza shops became more and more common, serving hungry workers in booming cities and suburbs. But this growth also stabbed at real, authentic, Italian pie – many entrepreneurial Americans weaved their way into the pizza biz, oftentimes adapting to purely American tastes by offering, well, Americanized pizza.

They made twists on tradition: New York-style, deep-dish, the Rocky Mountain pie, Chicago-style, and Hawaiian pizzas were frequently served up, and of course, everything changed when these takes were made more convenient with frozen varieties and modernized delivery services from chain stores. And with that, we got the pizza we all know and love.
