WTF: A Handbag + an iPad = the Ultimate in Wearable Tech?
We say wearables, you think fitness tracker, smartwatches or Google Glass. Well get ready to rethink. BagBroadcasting is taking wearable tech where you never thought it would go. And that’s by making your handbag into a little personal billboard with the help of an iPad.
BagBroadcasting, currently raising funds on Kickstarter, is a handbag equipped with a transparent pocket specifically for your iPad. Download the corresponding app, and then choose some of your favorite photos and sayings and run them as a slideshow for all the world to see. Or at least anyone riding in the train or walking down the street with you.
Creator Rachel Hinman created BagBroadcasting as a way for fashion and technology to connect people together. She sees the bag as a way for the wearers to “express their identity, express their dreams, their ideas and their beliefs” and believes that “when you see someone who is wearing something you think is interesting or attractive, you feel a connection to that person.” Basically, BagBroadcasting is the ultimate conversation piece and way to meet new pals.
You can’t deny that both wearables and type-heavy statement shirts are totally trending right now. Even the NY Times is saying that Spring 2014 is “all about wearing your slogan on your sleeve.” So Rachel might be on to something. And I mean, Flavor Flav wears a wall clock around his neck, so umm, yeah, we should be able to wear an iPad as a handbag too.
If you’re interested in getting in on BagBroadcasting, you best be heading over to their Kickstarter page and stat. The campaign is ending in the next few days, and to get your very own statement-tee-meets-wearble-tech, you’ll need to lay down $150.
