Huge News: We’re Making a Coloring Book (and We Want YOUR Designs!)
Alright folks, listen up. We’ve got big news and just can’t keep it to ourselves anylonger. Brit + Co is making the first ever crowdsourced coloring book — for grown-ups! And guess what? We want YOU to submit a design. Read on for more deets!
Given our obsession with color and creativity there’s no question why we want to create a coloring book. That said, coloring can be more than fun play. Did you know science tells us that just 30 minutes of coloring a day can dramatically reduce stress and help you sleep better?
According to psychologist Gloria Martínez Ayala, “Coloring has a de-stressing effect because when we focus on a particular activity, we focus on it and not on our worries. It also brings out our imagination and takes us back to our childhood, a period in which we most certainly had a lot less stress. Not to mention The Huffington Post reports that “The practice of coloring generates wellness, quietness & also stimulates brain areas related to motor skills, the senses of creativity.” We even learned this first hand at Brit + Co when editor Cortney Clift spent a week coloring and documented her experience. The short of it? Coloring stimulates creative flow in a simple, beautiful way and has noticeable positive impacts on our well-being.
This coloring book is all about bringing our community together to create a collection of unique, modern and awesome designs. That’s why we’re asking you (our amazing readers) to create pages for the book. You can create and submit a design, then we will include our favorites. Plus if your design is chosen and included in the book, you’ll make $225!
The theme of the book is Pattern Play. Why celebrate patterns? Patterns are everywhere, in nature, in textiles and in the graphic designs we work on every day. Our definition of what constitutes a “pattern” is loose — not everything needs to repeat. It should simply read as a full page pattern. A page filled with drawings of cakes, feathers or cacti is totally fair game. A page filled with hand-drawn words that someone can color in also works.
Are you in? We’ve need to get the design finished STAT so the timeline is quick. Here are the deets:
