There’s always a bit of curiosity and, honestly, a bit of secrecy around the products and routines people use to keep their skin healthy from the inside out. What’s even more intriguing is when you can get a peek into the skincare secrets of industry experts. This series will lift the veil on the products, tips and hacks behind people who are majorly *skinspirational*.

I met Dr. Mona Gohara when I attended a rad conference called Create & Cultivate last month (go to this conference if you get the chance!). After hearing her speak about her philosophy on beauty — and learning that she launched Dove’s third annual Self Esteem Weekend — I knew I had to profile her for this series because of her depth of knowledge and passion for embracing inner beauty. Here is the exact skincare routine of a Dove dermatologist.

Step 1. Gentle Face Wash: “In the morning, I use the Dove Beauty Bar ($4 for a 2-pack) in the shower to keep my skin soft and hydrated. It’s gentle enough to use on both your face and body.”

Step 2. Protecting + Brightening Serum: “Then, I apply SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic Serum ($163) to prevent sun damage and protect against free radical damage. I love serums. They are highly concentrated, light and easy to layer.”

Step 3. Antioxidant Sunscreen: “After I apply the serum, I follow it up with La Roche-Posay Anthelios AOX Daily Antioxidant Serum With Sunscreen ($42), which protects your skin from UV rays. Never skip SPF — 90% of the signs of aging come from unprotected UV exposure.”

Step 4. Remove Makeup: “At the end of the day, I use the Dove Beauty Bar ($4 for a 2-pack) again to wash off my makeup. It hydrates, cleanses and protects the skin barrier for healthy-looking skin.”

Step 5. Apply Retinol: “In the evening after washing my face, I apply Avène RetrinAL 0.05 Cream ($61) to help increase collagen production and decrease collagen breakdown.”

Step 6. Hydrating Cream: “After I apply a retinol, I use a hydrating cream like SkinMedica HA5 Rejuvenating Hydrator ($178). The active ingredient is hyaluronic acid, which absorbs water and plumps the skin.”
