How to Safely Bleach Your Brows According to Kim K’s MUA
After watching Katy Perry deal with the fallout of bleaching her brows WITHOUT a pre-test or letting her stylist in on the plan, and Miley Cyrus deal with overall bleached hair regrets, you may be slowly backing out of your next color appointment with your stylist. But going from a dark winter shade to summer-ready blonde CAN be done right — just look at the Kardashians. Khloé’s colorist just let us in on how to go blonde safely, and now Kim K has given us the deets on how to get the lighter-brow look — sans a color mishap. With info straight from her pro makeup artist, this is definitely the info you need if you’re debating bleaching your brows.
Sharing the tips via her blog, Kim explains that she has bleached her eyebrows a few times, most recently at this year’s Met Gala. Yes, we were all so stunned by Katy’s brows, we sorta overlooked Kim’s, which she’s probably none-too-pleased with, since, according to her, “they looked really dope.” Noting that it’s not a look that she’d opt for daily, for certain situations Kim thinks bleached brows offer just the right amount of edge.
Kim gets her on-point lightened brow look with a helping hand from her MUA Mario Dedivanovic. He tells us, “At-home bleach treatments are really effective and only take a few minutes.” So, are you ready? If so, here are the deets you need.
Mario says that if you’re starting with dark hair like Kim, you may need to actually bleach your eyebrows a few times to achieve the shade you’re aiming for. His pro tip for avoiding an unnatural color: “Don’t forget to tone your brows with a tinted brow gel or pomade for the most natural look. To keep it from looking brassy, look for taupe and gray undertones.” Noted.
So what will you need? Mario suggests using Sally Hansen Extra Strength Crème Bleach ($8), Anastasia Beverly Hills Tinted Brow Gel in Blonde ($22), Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade in Blonde ($18), Glossier Boy Brow in Blonde ($16), a disposable spoolie brush and Urban Decay Naked Skin Color Correcting Fluid in Yellow ($28). Voila! You’re ready to get those brows lightened.
But what if you’re not ready for full-on Katy Perry-style bleached brows? Mario understands. “If you’re not ready to go full bleach, you can create a similar look by dipping a clean spoolie brush into a creamy yellow concealer and brushing it through your brows.” Ooooh, we gotta try that!
