Why Kim Kardashian West Was Mom-Shamed for Her New Year’s Eve Celebration
It was a pretty scary holiday weekend for the Kardashian West family. Mama Kim Kardashian West took to social media to share news with fans about the health of two-year-old son Saint West, who spent three days in the hospital battling pneumonia just before New Year’s Eve. Detractors took to social media to call the soon-to-be mom of three out over her New Year’s Eve stories and pics online, which appeared to show the family having a massive NYE blow out party. But Kim Kardashian West isn’t having anybody‘s mom-shaming.

Sharing a pic from what appears to be Christmas Eve (based on her outfit and hair), Kardashian West told fans via Instagram about her harrowing weekend with her son. “My precious baby boy is so strong! After spending three nights in the hospital & seeing my baby get multiple IV’s and hooked up to oxygen machines, our end of year was challenging. Pneumonia is so scary. I just want to thank every nurse & doctor out there who works so hard around the clock. We are so grateful for you all! He’s home and all better. He’s so resilient I’m sure he will still say the ambulance ride was cool! My strong Saint .” When a fan on Twitter defended the 37-year-old’s celebrations in light of her son’s hospital visit, the Keeping Up With The Kardashians star had set the record straight.
I haven't heard this BUT lets get this straight. I did not leave my son for one minute during his hospital stay. We were there Wednesday night to Saturday. NYE WAS SUNDAY NIGHT. People came over when he was already asleep for the night! Don't even try me when it comes to my kids https://t.co/wrl47awaUr

“I haven’t heard this BUT lets [sic] get this straight,” Kardashian West tweeted Wednesday afternoon. “I did not leave my son for one minute during his hospital stay. We were there Wednesday night to Saturday. NYE WAS ON SUNDAY,” the reality star clarified, explaining that the party she and husband Kanye West hosted happened, “when he [Saint] was already asleep for the night! Don’t even try me when it comes to my kids.”
Kardashian West should not have to defend having guests over to her house for the new year, nor should she need to defend her actions when it comes to caring for her sick child. Blaming her or accusing her of being uncaring without knowing the whole story is another way of shaming her actions as a mother, and unless we are invited into her life, judging her without knowing the facts is unfair. At no point does Saint West appear to be in harm’s way as a result of his parents’ celebrations.
At the end of the day, Saint, his sister North, and their soon-to-be-born sibling may be the children of celebrities, but they are still just children, and how or what their parents choose to share of them isn’t up for debate or questioning. Unless something is shown to be clearly harmful, which Kardashian West’s posts aren’t, it’s wrong to judge her parenting decisions — whether anyone likes it or not.
