Why Nike’s New Line Is Great News for Women
When it comes to athletic wear, making it look good is definitely important, but making sure it actually performs should always be the main priority. So, when Nike decided they were (finally!) going to design a basketball line especially for women, they consulted a few ladies who know a thing or two about the sport.
Similar to the way Target built up their new plus-size brand, Nike is hoping to make the women’s basketball line the best is can be by getting opinions from some of the sport’s best players. The athletic brand looked to professional basketball players, Elena Delle Donne, Skylar Diggins, Chiney Ogwumike and Sue Bird to help make sure the new pieces really performed. They also consulted female players from the University of Connecticut’s basketball team on this long-overdue new line. In a release Diggins (a guard for Tulsa Shock) explains, “This is giving us what we want and need. I have been waiting for this forever.”
The line consists of four pieces altogether. You’ll find a high-performance hoodie, a pair of tapered pants, slim-fitting shorts and a contoured tank. Like most activewear nowadays, they were obviously made to be worn on the court, but they could also easily crossover into that ambiguous athleisure category. The pieces range between $35 to $80 and are all currently available online.
