Reese Witherspoon Reflects on Getting Married at Age 23 to Ryan Phillippe
Reese Witherspoon may have some lofty goals for the future — even a possible run for office one day — but she’s still willing to take time to look back at her past. The actress, now married to Jim Toth, recently reflected on her previous marriage to her Cruel Intentions costar Ryan Phillippe, recalling how young she was when they started their family.
“I got married when I was 23 and I had two kids by the time I was 27,” the now-41-year-old mom of three said during an interview with ITV’s Lorraine. She added that she “would never change anything,” but that she thinks “sometimes it’s good to know yourself.”
The Big Little Lies star explained, “I’ve said to my daughter [18-year-old Ava Phillippe], I think, you know, at 25 you start to know yourself a little bit better.”

Phillippe has also cited their youth as one of the reasons for their 2006 split. “I think more of the problem was age. When we got together we were so young,” the Shooter actor said on Larry King Now in 2015. “I think it can create issues with two people in this industry because there’s so much noise that goes along with it.”
Witherspoon — who shares Ava and 13-year-old Deacon with Phillippe, and also has a five-year-old son, Tennessee, with Toth — has been reflecting on her past as she promotes her new film, Home Again, which the actress says is “about that next chapter of your life. What do you do when you, you know, get to 40 and you made a decision when you were 25 to get married and have kids?”
Sounds like the perfect role for her!
