Is There Going To Be A 'Smoke' Season 2? Here's What The Creator Said

Smoke Apple TV+ Season 2
Apple TV+

When I first heard of the Apple TV series Smoke, I’ll admit I initially rolled my eyes. Another run-of-the-mill crime drama? I thought to myself. How many of these do we need, exactly? But it wasn’t until I watched the series trailer on Apple TV+ that I realized how wrong I was about my initial assumption. In just the two-minute trailer alone, I felt like I had a vivid understanding of who the characters were, in the best way possible. Everyone felt fleshed out, nuanced, and downright captivating. All at once, I was hooked. I needed to know more.

When I sat down to watch the series, I found myself gasping with my hand over my mouth more times than I care to admit. It’s been a while since I’ve felt so engaged in a crime drama, to the point where I wanted to call up all my friends and force them to stop what they were doing so they could sit down and watch the show.

Blown away by the gorgeous cinematography, the off-putting dynamic of the lead investigators, and the riveting storyline, I immediately found myself googling before the final credits even rolled whether there was going to be a season 2. Here's what we know so far!

Scroll to find out everything we know about the potential for Smoke season 2 on Apple TV+!

What happened in 'Smoke' season 1?

Smoke narrows in on an arson investigator, Dave Gudsen, and a criminal detective, Michelle Calderone, who join forces to take down a serial arsonist who is setting their quiet town aflame. As we learn, Dave isn’t thrilled to pair up with Michelle, since she isn’t someone who’s well-versed in arson.

“Why send you?” he questions her in season 1. “You don’t know anything about arson.”

“Yeah, but I know a ton about crime scene analysis,” she quips back. Like it or not, the two need to work as a team.

As we learn, their target suspect is a sociopathic man who commits these heinous crimes in order for others to feel the powerlessness that he himself experiences on a daily basis. “Serial arsonists tend to be powerless in their own lives,” Dave explains to Michelle. “They want other people to know what that feels like.” Chilling! Especially after that shocking finale.

Unfortunately, because the series has wrapped up so recently, there is no info yet as to whether the show will return. Yet considering how intense that finale episode was, there’s a good chance fans will be begging for more. I know I am!

Plus, series creator Dennis Lehane told Decider that they've "planned a whole Season 2," and that they're just waiting on the official green light. He said, “We always saw the show as three seasons. And just so you know, I always have to know where I’m ultimately going. I don’t know how I’m getting there, but I know where I am going. So I know where the show’s going.”

The series is filled with so many jaw-dropping twists and turns that it would be just plain rude for them not to come back with a second season. What do you guys think? Do you want a season 2 of the hit Apple TV series, or do you think it’s perfectly wrapped up as it is?
