This isn't the first book of Lisa's to land a movie deal. Her recent book from 2023, None of This is True, also signed a deal with Netflix over the summer. The book, published by Simon & Schuster and Penguin Random House UK, sold 2.5 million copies in the US and three million internationally. Holding a top slot on the New York Times Best Sellers list (for over 90 weeks), it has also gained traction on the Sunday Times Best Sellers list. It also holds a shiny 4.5 stars on Amazon and over 112,000 reviews. The book was a complete success and a worldwide favorite.
What is 'Then She Was Gone' about?
The story uncovers the life of Laurel Mack and the fallout of her daughter's mysterious disappearance. As Laurel finds herself moving on, she suddenly meets the perfect bachelor; however, what makes him so intriguing is his nine-year-old daughter, a little girl who looks just like her own. This beautiful and oddly similar-looking little girl catalyzes Laurel to go back to her past and figure out what happened to her daughter. According to Goodreads, the novel is “enthralling, one that sucks you in” and by the end, readers really feel like they know Laurel Mack. Described as "edgy, dark, and addictive," this story is a page-turner, one that is made for TV.
Who's working on the 'Then She Was Gone' movie?

Then She Was Gone will be produced by Jonathan Rubenstein and Ari Pinchot from Crystal City Entertainment, alongside Louis Paltnoi and Andrew Baker from Moonshot Films. Rubenstein and Pinchot's recent work includes Adam The First, a film starring David Duchovny and Oakes Fegley. Baker's includes an animation called The Amazing Maurice, a family piece.
Joining this group is Catherine Steadman, an actress and writer, who plans to act as the lead screenwriter on the project. Steadman not only acted in the hit show Downton Abbey, but she's also a bestselling author of her own thrillers, such as Something In The Water, which was published in 2018. Her screenwriting debut was with The Ex-Wife on Paramount+, which was adapted from a novel by Jess Ryder.
Who's in the 'Then She Was Gone' cast?
The cast list has not yet been released, but fans are excited. Lisa told USA Today, "It's moving the fastest of any other planned adaptations though it's still early stages." She also said that, "I want to get excited, but experience has taught me that it's better just to be patient and wait and it will happen." Much like Lisa, fans will have to sit tight and get ready for the film, which, if it is anything like the book, will be a major success.
