Whoa — Steven Avery from Making a Murderer Is Engaged
Steven Avery hasn’t exactly had an easy go of things — after being wrongfully imprisoned for a rape he didn’t commit for 18 years and being accused/convicted for the murder of Teresa Halbach following his release, the Making a Murderer subject is getting a spot of good news: He’s engaged.
Coming on the heels of the announcement of nephew Brendan Dassey’s overturned sentence (which has since been appealed), a release for which is set for some time in the next two months, it seems that things are on the upswing for the Wisconsin Waupan Correctional Institute inmate.
His bride-to-be is Lynn Hartman, a 53-year-old legal secretary who has been corresponding with Steven for the past eight months via email and letter — the two just met in person for the first time last week.

Apparently, it was one helluva meeting, because the pair now plans to wed when and if Steven’s sentence is ever overturned. He, for one, couldn’t be happier. “She’s going to be my future wife, we’ll be laughing forever,” he reportedly told The Daily Mail, adding, “I’m happy, she treats me decent, she loves me, she’s kind of spoiling me right now. I just want to be happy and enjoy my life; I think I did enough time.”
While that point remains to be determined (Steven’s lawyer Kathleen Zellner is reportedly working on presenting new evidence that could ultimately prove her client innocent), Kathleen is happy for him. “Steven deserves every bit of happiness that comes his way,” she told People. “He is very much in love with Lynn and they are happy so we are happy for them.”
