One burning question fans have is whether we’ll be reunited once more with our favorite ragtag bunch of vampire-slaying misfits. Will we get to see the beloved, familiar faces of Willow Rosenberg, Xander Harris, and Angel? Or is this a pipedream, where we’ll instead be exposed to a new cast entirely?

According to Gellar, the sequel series will offer a refreshing blend of old faces, as well as a whole new set of characters who will help Gellar along the way. “We will try to find a balance between new and old characters,” the I Know What You Did Last Summer actress told Vanity Fair. “My dream is to bring back everyone who has died, but space will have to be made for new stories as well.

While most fans of Buffy the Vampire Slayer are inwardly screaming with excitement over the news of a sequel series, other fans have expressed their doubts as well as concerns over an extension to the already perfect TV show. If it ain’t broke, why fix it?

Plus, from a more heartbreaking point of view, there are a handful of fans who don’t believe the show will have the same sense of magic following the untimely death of actress Michelle Trachtenberg, who stole every scene with her nuanced portrayal of Dawn Summers.

Who's directing the 'Buffy' reboot?

While the absence of Trachtenberg will surely be noticed by grieving fans, there are some elements to the remake that we have to look forward to. Particularly, because it will be directed by Chloe Zhao (Eternals), who labels herself a “lifelong Buffy fan.” (via Deadline) Knowing the sequel will be in good hands, by someone who is genuinely passionate about the Buffyverse, gives viewers hope about what’s yet to come for the series.
