I'm already on the edge of my seat!
Netflix’s Gripping Political Thriller ‘Hostage’ Will Fill The 'Paradise' Void

Okay, so maybe this is just me being overly cynical, but I feel like TV showsows lately are severely lacking in one of the most important ingredients when it comes to television gold: high stakes. It’s been a while since I’ve watched something where I was on the edge of my seat, screaming at the TV, while cheering on the protagonist as they fought the bad guys.
Now, I know what you’re probably thinking: Didn’t you just watch Squid Game season 3? That was the sole definition of high stakes! Of course, like everyone else, I watched the third and final season of the deadly thriller Squid Game. But to be completely honest, I feel like it actually lacked stakes for me as a viewer. Hear me out: despite the life-or-death risks on the table, I wasn’t truly gripped, simply because I didn’t feel as though I really got to know any of the characters. So, without a real connection to the players, I found myself unable to emotionally invest in their situations given all the new cast members thrown at us with so little time to delve into their individual stories.
Fortunately, with Netflix’s new political thriller, Hostage, this series picks up where season 3 of Squid Game fell off the mark. Unlike Squid Game S3, there’s more of a pinnacle focus and spotlight on a select number of characters in Hostage, whose lives are placed at risk by deadly threats at every turn. The new Netflix series particularly centers around Abigail Dalton, a British prime minister who refuses to cower down to the fatal threats made against her. Here's what you need to know about the rest of the show.

What is Netflix’s 'Hostage' about?

Netflix
British Prime Minister Abigail Dalton, played radiantly by Suranne Jones, is used to her career coming with a heap of chaotic twists and turns. It’s the job she’s signed up for, and if anyone knows how to handle a political mess with the ultimate grace and intellect, it’s Dalton. Yet the one thing she never prepared for was a hostage situation, in which her husband is abducted by a group of threatening men who hope to blackmail the British prime minister into doing their bidding.

Netflix
“These people will stop at nothing,” Abigail Dalton sharply announces in the series trailer. “But I will not give in to them.” She continues, proclaiming, “They have targeted me. They have weaponized my family.” But instead of agreeing to their terms, Dalton says firmly, “I will not be threatened. I will not negotiate. My loyalties are to this country.”
