Meet Makr, The Mobile Design Studio of Your Dreams

Calling all makers! There’s a new app you HAVE to check out. It’s called Makr, and it was developed with all of you in mind. How thoughtful, right? It comes from the folks at Happy Media and aims to simplify and democratize design. Thanks Happy Media, you had us at simplicity. Of course, we had to take Makr for a spin at Brit HQ. Read on to see how it went.

Makr is essentially a mobile design studio. It brings awesome design tools straight to your tablet, so you can make business cards, product labels, gift tags, invitations, stickers, and more. To start your project, you can choose from a variety of templates in the following categories: Business, Parties, Wedding, Baby, Holiday, Home. We decided to play around with some of the holiday templates—one of our favorites was the “Thanksgiving Leftovers” post. I mean, who doesn’t end up with leftovers after their Turkey Day feast? Sending your guests home with a few can help prevent a refrigerator overload. Plus, the labels were just too cute to pass up.

We wanted to keep it simple, so we went with the Clove Sticker. You can see the beginning template above. First, we renamed our project “T-Day Leftovers.” Then, we decided to customize our sticker by adding some art. You can add a variety of icons and lines, or import your own logo. We added the fork and knife icon.

Next, you can choose a background color. We went with this pretty robin’s egg blue. Then, edit your text. You can customize your text with a variety of fonts, colors, sizes, and spacing options. We chose a festive cranberry red for our “Cranberry Sauce” label. Ta-da! You’re done. After you’ve finished your design, you can purchase a high-res PDF and print it off at home. Or, you can order professional prints and have your design delivered right to your door. Pretty cool. We went on to make stickers for “Turkey & Stuffing,” “Pumpkin Pie,” and “Mashed Potatoes.”

Overall, Makr is fast and fun. The simple interface makes it easy to create custom products. Plus, being able to design and print from your tablet is pretty epic. We love the endless customization options and the cool patterns and templates.
