McDonald’s Is Giving Away Nuggets Made of Solid Gold
It appears as though McDonald’s is finally putting some real gold behind those golden arches – well, in Japan at least. The fast food retailer has released a bizarre new campaign + contest that’s offering fans a chance to win an 18-karat gold chicken nugget (valued at $2,000) and a pack of gold fries. Why you need golden fast food, we’re entirely sure. But one thing is certain: the people are LOVING it.
To win you have to spot + tweet a photo of McDonald’s newest character Kaito Nuggets, a sauce thief who wears a bright yellow suit, a top hat and an eye mask. According to a release about the contest, Kaito Nuggets might be spotted at a McDonald’s location or he “may throw out a ceremonial first pitch for a professional baseball game.” Basically, he could be anywhere. Hashtag the photo #怪盗ナゲッツ (which is “Kaito Nuggets” in Japanese) and you’re in the running.
All this golden hype is essentially a promotion for two new sauces launching in Japan’s McDonald’s: Creamy Cheddar Cheese Sauce and Fruits Curry Sauce. While only one person can win the gold food, 21 people will win a five-piece pack of nuggets for 39 days. The contest runs June 8–28. If you happen to be in Japan between now and then, keep your eyes peeled!
