This Is the Hidden Meaning You Might Have Missed in Melania Trump’s Beijing Dress
Our clothing choices can speak volumes. Whether we’re dressing for an interview or gearing up for a hot date, choosing the right ensemble for an event can be crucial. The same is true on a larger scale, as well, with Melania Trump making that point loud and clear with her current trip overseas.
With President Trump and the First Lady currently abroad in Asia to discuss foreign relations, the 47-year-old former model stepped out in Beijing to meet with President Xi Jinpeng and his wife, Madame Peng Liyuana, in a custom Dolce & Gabbana gown with an estimated price tag of $3,975.
The garment was more than just a dress, however, as it paid tribute to Chinese culture both with its cut and in its details. According to US Weekly, the baby pink floral appliqué pattern is meant to resemble the Mei Hua, or plum blossom, the country’s national flower.
It wouldn’t be the first time Trump has used her clothing choices to send messages of diplomacy: Back in April, she welcomed the Presidential couple to American soil in a fire-engine red Valentino midi dress, with the color thought to be a nod to its meaning in Chinese culture for good luck and celebration.
