What is 'The Paper' about?

From The Office developer Greg Daniels and Nathan For You co-creator Michael Koman, The Paper brings a fresh twist to the mockumentary format with new faces and a different location for the spin-off.

Unlike the original’s East Coast setting in Scranton, Pennsylvania, this series shifts the action to the Midwest. Set in Toledo, Ohio, The Paper follows the staff of a struggling local newspaper attempting to stage a comeback.

“It’s about this struggling Midwestern newspaper that’s much reduced from its glory days. It’s a fruitful premise,” Daniels told The Hollywood Reporter.

Domhnall Gleeson

Domhnall Gleeson will star as Ned, a publisher aiming to revive the newspaper's legacy. He's starred in iconic projects from rom-com (and absolute tear-jerker!) About Time to Star Wars! He's also appeared in shows like Alice & Jack, The Patient, and Black Mirror. Oh, and he's starring in Echo Valley with Julianne Moore and Sydney Sweeney this year!

Sabrina Impacciatore

Sabrina Impacciatore portrays Esmeralda, the editor-in-chief navigating the challenges of modern journalism. You probably recognize her from playing the iconic Valentina in The White Lotus season 2 — who could forget the neurotic hotel manager that just couldn't seem to catch a break?! Based on that alone, we're sure she'll bring plenty of perfectly-timed dry humor to The Paper.

Chelsea Frei

Chelsea Frei is no stranger to the screen! She just starred alongside Sofia Carson in The Life List on Netflix, and she's been in plenty of TV shows as well! You've probably spotted her in shows like Poker Face, Doll Face, and Shrill!

Melvin Gregg

Melvin Gregg is an actor with a ton of titles under his belt! He starred in the film The Way Back alongside Ben Affleck, as well as shows like Nine Perfect Strangersand Snowfall.

Gbemisola Ikumelo

Are any original 'The Office' cast members returning?

While it was initially unclear which familiar faces might return, it’s now confirmed: Óscar Núñez will reprise his role as accountant Oscar.

“I told Mr. Greg Daniels that if Oscar came back, he would probably be living in a more bustling, cosmopolitan city,” Núñez said at NBCUniversal’s Upfront in May 2025. (via Entertainment Weekly)

“Greg heard me and he moved Oscar to Toledo, Ohio, which has three times the population of Scranton. So, it was nice to be heard.”
