The 23 Must-Have Items For Your Carry-On Packing List This Year

Carry-On Packing List

Traveling is such a treat, especially when you're popping over on a spring break getaway to sunnier skies and warmer weather, a girls’ trip with friends you haven’t seen in far too long, or a summer vacation to somewhere you've never been. But going away should be fun, not stressful! If packing is the bane of your existence, or you simply do not have the time to think about it all. This packing list for your carry-on luggage has everything, so make room for stylish walking shoes, phone chargers, and other products that will keep you comfortable while in flight. Bon voyage!

CALPAK Evry Carry-On Luggage

To start to pack a carry-on bag, you need a carry-on bag! My personal favorite is this hardshell rolling suitcase. Internal pockets and dividers help to keep your packing process extremely organized and efficient which makes it perfect for trips when you prefer to travel only with a carry-on.

CALPAK Terra 26L Laptop Duffel Backpack

If you prefer a backpack to hardshell luggage for your carry-on bag, CALPAK also is the clear winner with this bag that can be carried on your back or as a duffel. With just about one million internal and external pockets, I’ve been able to bring just this bag on 4 day long trips, which says a lot about its organizational capabilities since I’m a chronic overpacker.

Amazon Kindle Paperwhite

Lightweight and compact, bringing a Kindle in your carry-on bag is much more conducive than traveling with a physical book. Using the Libby app on your phone, you can download books for free straight from your local library onto your Kindle to enjoy a range of stories at no cost.

Touchland Power Mist Hand Sanitizer

Keeping yourself clean can be a challenge when you’re on the move, so it’s always great to have a hand sanitizer at the ready. This misting sanitizer is leakproof and TSA approved… add to cart!

Owala FreeSip

This reusable bottle is a dream setup for a carry-on bag and is much more practical for travel than the acclaimed Stanley Cup because of the screw on top with a handle that makes it easy to carry and toss into your bag without fear of leaks. Plus, the duo sip and straw lid lets you drink how you want!

No Reception Club Dopp Kit

This clear panel toiletry bag is comfortable size for inclusion in a carry-on and fits all of your essentials. Since it’s see through, it makes security lines easy since TSA will be able to check what’s inside without having to unzip and rifle through your belongings.

Loop Earplugs in Quiet

Getting your beauty sleep can be a little more difficult when you’re confined to an airplane that’s full of other passengers who aren’t on the same sleep schedule as you. Instead of letting the noise from your aisle mates keep you up, enjoy blissful silence with these reusable earplugs.

Sleep Eye Mask - up & up

Keep the light out with this eye mask that doesn’t press up on your lashes. Creating a black-out effect, this sub $10 option from Target is always in my travel bag.

Lanolips The Original 101 Ointment Multipurpose Superbalm

This multipurpose balm works as a chapstick, hydrating moisturizer substitute, and more is a 100% natural alternative to other petroleum-based balms. It’s not greasy or sticky and will keep your skin feeling dewy even dry aircraft cabin air.

Ban.do Mobile Tech Pouch

Keep your countless chargers organized within your carry-on bag with this patterned pitch that has a carry handle, front pocket, zipper opening, and a place to store all your cords.

Shark FlexStyle

The Shark FlexStyle packs a punch without taking up much space. The slim design is perfect for tucking into the internal pocket of your carry-on, and external attachments allow it to be used as a hair dryer, curling iron, and blowout tool all wrapped into one.

Standard Baggu Reusable Bag

I love to travel with these chic reusable bags because they fold down so small, but can hold SO much. With the capacity of 2-3 plastic grocery bags and the strength to hold up to 50 lbs, throwing one or two of them into your carry-on is a no-brainer.

Mary & Jane Sunny Melts

If you’re a nervous flier, these melts deliver an easygoing disposition with a happy, infectious energy to keep you at peace as soon as the wheels go up. Because they’re less than 0.3% hemp-derived, they are TSA-approved and a-ok to fly with while creating a blissful effect for a plant-powered mood boost.

Girlfriend Collective Black Recycled Cotton Long Sleeve Crew

In the unfortunate off-chance that your checked luggage gets lost, it’s wise to plan ahead and have extra clothing in your carry-on that can translate well in multiple different settings. This cozy longsleeve is amazing for lounging around, but can also be dressed up for dinners and daytime exploring. Its size range is vast with offerings from XXS to 6XL, making it the perfect top for every gal on the go.

Sierra Madre All Square Skort

Similar to the above, this skort is a multifunctional piece of clothing that can get you through various events in style in the off chance that your main piece of checked luggage doesn’t make it to the carousel and you have to be resourceful. Its athletic fabric and sweat-wicking capabilities make it comfortable enough for all-day wear, and a stylish slit and buttons take it seamlessly from day to night.

Rothy’s Square Mary Jane

The ultimate flats for vacation hot girl walks, these Mary Janes go with everything, are chicer than regular sneakers, and can be machine washed again and again.

Mountain Hardwear Stretchdown Jacket

This lightweight down jacket is my holy grail. I bring it everywhere and it’s the perfect weight that can be worn in mildly chilly temperature, but also provides serious warmth on more frigid days while packing down small for on-the-go ease.

Tita Star

Instead of taking up excess space with a strapless bra that works for the one fussy going out top that you plan to wear on your trip, I love these playful reusable nipple covers as a functional alternative. Made from ultra-thin silicone, Titas lay flat under clothing and the unique shapes make them feel like a fun secret that you can keep close to your chest.

Dieux Forever Eye Mask

The thin, lightweight, and reusable eye patch that holds gels, serums, and creams close to the skin for maximum absorption. Use with your favorite eye cream, gel, or serum for ultra under-eye plumping. No eye bag jet lag here!

Glamnetic Ballet Pink Press-on Nails

Bring these trusty ultra-durable press-ons with you on vacay that are so easy you can apply them in 10 minutes on the plane or while waiting to board. Ballet Pink is the perfect almost-neutral to go with every single outfit, no matter how colorful or monochromatic. Your kit includes a cuticle pusher, nail file, and glue so if you do happen to pop one off, you can glue them right back on without extra stress. They’re infinitely reusable and can last up to 2 weeks for most.

AirPods (3rd generation) with Lightning Charging Case

If you don’t already have a pair of AirPods, WYD? The noise canceling 3rd generation models provide uninterrupted listening on long flights.

3 Pack of 10FT iPhone Chargers

It’s important to have extra phone charges while you travel in case you accidentally leave one on the plane or in your AirBNB – mistakes happen! For only $10, this colorful 3 pack is a great solution for forgetful minds and tired phone batteries.

Cuup Bikini Pack of 3

After hours of traveling in the same undergarments, you’ll be thankful that you remembered to pack a fresh pair, trust us on this one.

This hip pack is the ultimate hydration hack for hiking, running, or even biking. It's fitted with a 2L reservoir and 3L of storage space (we're talking pockets on pockets) for on-the-go essentials like snacks and SPF! According to Cotopaxi, it clocks in at 10 ounces, making it a super lightweight option that won't weigh you down (back pain, who?). The back panel that meets your body opposite the adjustable straps is made of breathable mesh for added comfort.

Lagos 15L Hiking Hydration Pack

$72.50, was $145

If you need a larger hydration option with endless storage possibilities, this on-sale pack's the one for you! It comes complete with a 2.5L reservoir for water, while the remaining 12.5L is meant to hold additional gear (think clothes, headlamps, and camp shoes). This Coto backpack is exceptionally comfy to wear – it's designed with a ventilated, breathable back panel to air you out and waist belt wings to help take the heavy load off your back. If you already know you'll need more water on your backpacking trip or long day hike, this bag's also fitted with mesh bottle pockets on either side! It's another great lightweight option as it weighs 1 lb 7 oz.

Todo 16L Convertible Tote

$42.50, was $85

Did someone say 2-in-1? This sleek convertible piece is a backpack and a tote bag all at once. It's perfect for airplane travel, easily sliding under your seat or in the overhead storage space. No matter what, you can feel confident that the stuff you stow away is secure – a top zippered opening and interior 15" laptop sleeve will keep it in place. $52.50, was $75

This is the supreme Cotopaxi bag for hands-free adventures. Its adjustable strap can be customized for a fanny pack or crossbody fit, but either way, you'll be styling. As opposed to the Lagos Hip Pack, this one doesn't have a water reservoir, so it's best for short excursions. It'd be a lifesaver for any airport shenanigans you have coming up, since it enables super easy access to your phone, passport, wallet, and whatever else you wanna take with you! It's also compatible with the Allpa Travel Pack, measuring about 11 x 8 x 3.5 in to fit conveniently around it.

Jackets

Fuego Hooded Down Jacket

$147.50, was $295

It's no wonder Cotopaxi's Fuego jacket is one of their most beloved. The retro-esque striped gradient colorway gives total summer sunset vibes, which look good no matter if you're on the trail or roaming around the city. It's a total master at insulation (with 800-fill down) and repelling water (with a nylon shell construction), making comfort key. The scuba hood wraps around your head for maximized warmth – same with the zippered hand pockets on either side. Now is the best time to grab a summer camping-winter walking coat like this, since you're literally saving nearly $150.

Abrazo Fleece Half-Zip Jacket

$55, was $120

The fun, bright red colorway on this fleece ensures that you won't be missed on the trail. The contrasting zippered chest pocket gives your look some extra-stylish oomph that's practical for holding small items, too. The jacket itself boasts a half-zip that looks stunning in any configuration. The cuffs and collar are elastic, so you've definitely got some room to breathe and move around in this piece!

Teca Fleece Hooded Full-Zip Jacket

$70, was $140

Just as good a base layer as it is alone, this fleece is madly versatile for many different weather situations and activities. The iconic multicolor stripes are very cool in their own way, but what makes this garment even better is the fact that it's made from recycled fleece and repurposed polyester taffeta materials that would otherwise end up in a landfill! The full-length zipper and classic hood give you a good range of options for how to wear this jacket for the utmost comfort and confidence.

Cielo Rain Jacket

$72.50, was $145

This retro-inspired waterproof jacket might just be one of the freshest pieces of rain gear we've ever seen! It's highly breathable, being made from a medley of PFC-free recycled materials and mesh layers. Summer rain storms are truly no match! The zippered hand and chest pockets provide ample storage space for any small necessities you'd like to keep on-hand. In addition to this pink-orange options, there are 3 more colorways (blue, yellow, and black) to shop on sale right now.

Teca Half-Zip Windbreaker

$40, was $80

Most ideal for windy days, the Teca Half-Zip Windbreaker still lets you tackle to gusts in style. Though it's a beast at blocking out strong winds, it's also impressively breathable! There's a back panel vent that covers the lower half of your back and lets fresh air in without letting a single chill sneak by. This Cotopaxi piece also packs down into itself, which is a total treat for minimalist travelers!

Fuego Down Vest

$92.50, was 185

You never know when you'll need an extra layer, and this down vest is the perfect thing to take along "just in case." It's perfect for those mild, temperate days where you still may find cool breezes in the shade. The two side pockets are streamlined in their open-faced design for tucking your hands into. The fact that you can snag this piece in the iconic sunset gradient coloration for half off is pretty nice, too.

Trico Hybrid Jacket

$87.50, was $175

Described as a "hybrid layer" that provides "even distribution of warmth," the Trico Jacket boasts panels of high pile fleece and 100% recycled synthetic insulation for extra coziness. It has a generously-sized hood as well as side pockets for colder moments, and a zippered chest pocket for storing the small stuff. Not to mention this electric magenta and burnt orange coloration is just stunning!

Teca Fleece Pullover

$50, was $100

No zips here – only buttons. This pullover is easy to throw on and off. It has snap buttons placed all the way up to the collar, but it also folds down stylishly when unbuttoned. The fleece material is fairly thin, so this one works best as a midlayer or light jacket. The kangaroo pockets speak to its casual vibes, making it perfect for everyday wear, from the office to the grocery store!

Teca Crop Jacket

$40, was $80

The cropped shape on this Cotopaxi jacket absolutely gives it a trendier feel, and we are very here for it! It's a wonderful light layer for chilly mornings-turned hot afternoons (IYKYK), and it's meant to fit loosely so you don't feel swamped at any point. There's an adjustable bungee at the hem that allows you to customize your perfect fit, too. The thin material makes this a very packable contender for extended travel!

Lighter Gear

Paseo Travel Crop T-Shirt

$27,50, was $55

Sometimes summer's sunnier days don't call for a single layer, which is why Cotopaxi offers lighter garments for sweat-worthy moments. This super-soft crew neck tee is crafted from an odor-resistant, quick-drying material for those exact occasions! Though practical AF, the cropped silhouette still gives this piece a trendy air. In addition to this tan color, there's a pink, blue, and yellow version on sale (50% off).

Sombra Sun Hoodie

$35, was $70

This sun hoodie already has UPF 50+ protection built in, which is crucial for long days spent in the sun. Even if it's hot, protection from harmful rays is important! Even if it does feel like a million degrees out, this pullover feels like nothing. It's super light and breathable. It flaunts thumbholes for added coverage and practicality, plus a tiny pocket along the back side for any must-haves.

Mari Crop Top

$30, was $60

Okay, fun and colorful! You're gonna be the coolest gal on the trail (or at the gym!) when you sport this cropped tank top. It's entirely movement-friendly, but still uber-stylish with a serene color scheme and cross-back straps. It's made from a quick-dry fabric that feels like heaven, even if you're breaking a sweat.

Black women's hairstyles are some of the most diverse I've seen — we're known for wearing our natural hair one week only to show up to work with braids the next. As one of my former hairstylists told me as a pre-teen, "You have to keep them guessing!" And while it's always fun to switch it up, it also a great way to experiment and find a summer look that feels effortless. With that in mind, here are six Black hairstyles that I think we'll see a lot of this year, regardless of hair texture. Here's to finding your own next look, ladies!

Image via Theo Wargo/Getty Images

Goddess Knotless Braids

Braided hairstyles are by far one of the go-to styles for summer. They help keep hair protected from the heat and other elements that may cause dryness or frizz while creating a cute style that lasts anywhere from 4-6 weeks.

While knotless braids have become a lot more popular, more people are opting to wear 'Goddess' knotless braids which includes an unfinished look or an addition of wavy or curly human hair extensions in between the braids. It's the perfect style for a summer vacation that includes a ton of beach or water park days.

Short and Sweet Bob

Admit it — you've lowkey always envied Edna's luscious bob in The Incredibles. It makes sense because she is a succinct fashion designer that knows how to create looks. Even if your inspiration isn't Edna, chin-length bobs scream sophistication and can make any casual outfit look like a 90s off-duty model look.

Classic Updo

Women can't get enough of classic updos, and I don't blame them. I have very fond memories of seeing older Black women wear them to special events so I have a soft spot for them.

If you're trying to figure out what what kind of updo you want to wear, take a cue from Keke Palmer! Her sleek updo manages to look soft as well as voluminous and it also frames her face.

Cute Pixie Haircut

Short haircuts are here to stay, especially when we know it's going to be hot during summer! Since I've cut my hair on three separate occasions, I know a few tricks that make sure my hair was razor sharp and shiny every time I stepped out. One of them is making sure I used a moisturizing shampoo and conditionerduring each wash day. This help me set the tone for styling.

Next, I recommend using a heat protectant spray that won't dry your hair out if you plan to use a blow dryer and curling iron. If you plan to let your hair air dry, you could also mold and set your hair using a good foaming mousse!

No matter how you choose to wear your pixie haircut, it's sure to look glorious when you properly prep your hair.

Middle Part Sew-In

It wouldn't be right if I didn't refer to this look the way the TikTok and Instagram girlies do. Known as one of the most popular Black women's hairstyles, this is actually referred to as a 'bussdown' middle part — and it looks fabulous on Ciara. Truthfully, anyone can wear this style because it's universal (love it) and isn't specific to one group of women. I mean, even Law Roach has been know to wear a good bussdown middle part, and we love him even more for it!

Image via Frazer Harrison/Getty Images

Curls Out

Not everyone will reach for braids, short hairstyles, or extensions though. Some women will be rocking their natural curls, allowing them to be on full display this summer. If you plan to be one of them, make sure you try Beyonce's Cécredline to give your curls the volume and shine they deserve!

Black women's hairstyles should be fun and look carefree during summer even if the process of achieving certain looks takes a while!

Blake Lively is as multifaceted as they come. She's an actress who has starred in titles like Gossip Girl, A Simple Favor, and The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants (plus the upcoming adaptation of It Ends With Us). She's the founder of Betty Buzz, which has a variety of non-alcoholic mixers that taste just as good on their own as they do with liquor. And, she's also a mom. Lively has been outspoken about protecting her children from the paparazzi, making rare public appearances with them for events like her husband Ryan Reynolds' Hollywood Walk Of Fame Ceremonyandcozy date nights.

When Lively and Reynolds seemingly announced the birth of their fourth child last year, we melted. Here's everything you need to know about Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively's kids.

Is Blake Lively in any of Ryan Reynolds' movies?

Image via Paramount Pictures

Yes, Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds have been in the same movies! After meeting during the production of Green Lantern, Blake Lively has a role as an imaginary friend in Ryan Reynolds' new movie IF. In the film, Blake plays a kitten, and it looks like the child who dreamed her up also loves the ocean! This spring movie follows Ryan Reynolds' character and his neighbor Bea, who set out to save all the imaginary friends. It looks like such a fun watch and I can't wait to see the role Blake plays!

The movie also stars director John Krasinski, Cailey Fleming, Fiona Shaw, Alan Kim, Liza Colón-Zayas, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Louis Gossett Jr., and Steve Carell.

How do Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively prioritize their kids?

Image via Jamie McCarthy/Getty Images for Michael Kors

Blake Lively recently joined an episode of her Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants' costar Amber Tamblyn's Further Adoand revealed the one unbreakable rule she made with Ryan Reynolds.

“When Ryan and I got together, we made a rule not to work at the same time,” she says. “So that we could always prioritize our personal life...That takes working really hard when we're not. Just like financial planning and sustaining that; it takes balance.”

I love that Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds are serious about their family life, and that they have identified what works for them and are sticking with it.

Is Taylor Swift friends with Blake Lively's kids?

Yes, Taylor Swift loves Blake Lively's kids! At the Philadelphia show of the Eras Tour, in which Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively attended, Taylor said hello from the stage.

One funny detail about Ryan Reynolds' kids that I love is when he mentioned the girls finally realized Taylor Swift was a popstar. "I think what's most exciting for them is that for the longest time they just thought Taylor's just like an aunt, like a friend of Mommy and Daddy that's very, very close, almost family," he tellsThe Jess Cagle Show. "And then they went to a concert one day and were like, 'Ohhhhh, this isn't a hobby.'"

For Super Bowl Sunday, Blake Lively joined Taylor Swift to support beau (and KC Chiefs tight end) Travis Kelce. "Last week I left my kids for the first time ever," she says on Instagram. "I took pictures upside down and had no clue. I treated a friendship bracelet like a Flat Stanley for my husband like I didn’t realize it wasn’t ‘07. I borrowed more jewelry than the skeleton in the Pirates of the Caribbean ride. And I went clubbing. Now I know what my episode of TheTwilight Zone would look like."

How has motherhood affected Blake Lively?

Blake Lively recently opened up about how Ryan Reynolds and she monitor screen safety for their kids, which is definitely something top-of-mind in 2024. “This is not an ad. I get nothing out of this. I just love @tappityapp,” she said of the STEM-focused educational app. “It’s engaging, informative, fun and they care about safety."

She also jokes that she's learning new things right along with her daughters! But, no matter how educational or fun an app is, Blake Lively also emphasizes the importance of engaging with her kids' devices: "I’m always triple checking any kids app constantly for safety because that’s my responsibly not an app’s, but I do LOVE this one.”

Despite its fun and funny moments, the actress has admitted being a mom is hard, but she did it with her signature dry sense of humor. “BettyBooze at your service," she wrote in an Instagram Story announcing the new brand. "These are recipes I’ve been making for loved ones for years. But I have 4 kids now. And I’m tired. So here they are. In a can."

However, Lively absolutely loves motherhood, and says in a 2022 interview with Forbes that having children has made her feel more comfortable in her own skin. "Once I had children, that just became even more profound because my time was even more precious, but also I think having children for me made me feel so much more in my skin," she says. "I never felt more myself or at ease in my own body or more confident — not to say that there aren't a bevy of insecurities coming at me a million times a day, but I just feel incredibly settled."

Speaking with People in 2021, Lively also explains how important it is that her children see her accomplish things outside the home. "I want to be as present of a mother as humanly possible and I want them to feel my presence, but I also think the best way to be the best mother is to show them that you can have a life and have a passion and have an identity outside of just being a mother," Lively says.

While she acknowledges that motherhood is all-encompassing, and it looks different for everyone, she knows that having your own identity is very important. "Teaching them that they can maintain themselves and that everything is possible [is crucial]," she adds.

The couple decided to name their daughter James after Reynolds' late father. While the name connects both James and Reynolds to his father, it also gives Lively the chance to bond with her daughter over having historically male names. "I liked having a boy's name," Lively said on Good Morning Americain 2015. "I thought I'd pass it on."

Their third daughter Betty's name is a tribute to Lively's late father. We didn't know the name of the couple's third baby until Taylor Swift used all three names in her 2020 album folklore. Swift also used James' voice at the beginning of her 2017 track "Gorgeous"! Does that mean we'll hear one of Ryan Reynolds' children in Reputation (Taylor's Version)? I hope so!

Per People, Ryan Reynolds has made it clear he and Blake are wholly invested in the kids' daily lives. The doting husband and father enjoys the moments of "walking them to school and walking them back" as it deepens their bond. More than anything, Ryan and Blake's main goal is to make sure they teach their kids how to be introspective with Ryan saying, "...that's the thing we sort of hang our hat on the most is self-awareness with our kids."

However, that doesn't mean Blake and Ryan don't absolutely love being parents. "We're very excited [and] we wouldn't do this four times if we didn't love it," he says in an interview with CNBC's Power Lunch. "Everybody's doing great. Everybody's actually doing fantastic. I think if we hadn't figured it out by now, I think we'd be in deep, deep trouble."

"It's a zoo over here," he jokes. "This is my office here, this is where I'll probably — to be honest, I'll probably spend the rest of my life in here."

We love how much energy Ryan and Blake are pouring into their kids. It's always beautiful when parents are able to be present with their kids and teach them how to be present with themselves. Ryan Reynolds has also mentioned how having daughters "has been such a ride." Since he comes from a family of all boys, having daughters is something that was beyond his wildest dreams! “I love being a girl dad,” Ryan tells Access. “I have three daughters, which I never in a million years would imagine.”

He mentioned his newest daughter in June of 2023, when he announced his new series Bedtime Stories. "The idea for a show made to help everyone fall asleep was born the same day as my fourth child," he says on Instagram.
