New month, best new foods to share with you all. And let us just tell you, these hot-off-the-shelf snacks are guaranteed to delight your tastebuds this fall. While most of the items in this list lean to the healthy, we're partial to a few indulgences that you will definitely want to bust out on cheat day. (Oprah's pizza, anyone?) We hope you're not *too* hungry, because what you're about to see may cause a serious case of tummy grumbles.
O, That’s Good! Pepperoni Pizza ($7): Oprah’s newest addition to her food line is ‘za! The crust sneaks in a “hint of cauliflower” (a third of it is made with the cruciferous veg), yet it tastes just as fluffy-on-the-inside, crunchy-on-the-outside as your standard pizza. The low-moisture mozzarella becomes just as melty as the product image, and there are generous, giant pepperoni pieces dotted throughout the pie. Oprah, we thank you for this delicious contribution to our freezer.
Ben & Jerry’s Snackable Cookie Dough Chunks ($5): We were able to score a few bags of this miraculous new product from B&J’s, even though it’s currently only available in Vermont. Let us just tell you — it’s every bit as good as it sounds. What’s truly remarkable is how the dough remains soft and chewy despite being frozen. How can this be?! We particularly loved the original choc chip, although you cannot go wrong with the roasted taste of the peanut butter dough, either. Please, for the rest of the States, send Ben & Jerry’s a note and tell them how much you want this product to be nationally distributed...
Fishpeople Rainbow Peppercorn Wild Alaskan Salmon Jerky ($7): Gear up to eat an entire bag of this tender fish jerky. Though it only contains 6 grams of sugar per bag, it’s remarkably sweet. The lemon powder, black pepper, and rosemary extract give it just enough zest to keep you reaching back in the bag for more.
Lundberg Organic Black Rice Thin Stackers ($3): Rice crackers have received a makeover! Despite these thin puffed grain cakes containing only rice and salt, they are remarkably flavorful, even solo. We, however, love dressing them up with a little peanut butter or guacamole for a whole grain snack that does NOT taste like styrofoam.
Cypress Grove Fresh Goat Cheese Cups ($5): Let’s be honest — those “logs” of fresh goat cheese always end up drying out before you have a chance to eat it all. Cypress Grove’s solution? These adorable, resealable plastic cups. The cheese comes in four flavors, but we’re partial to the Straight Up, the classic plain flavor. Try it smeared on toast with a drizzle of honey and breakfast will never be the same.
Quaker Overnight Oats Unsweetened With Chia ($2): Quaker’s getting in on ALL the trends with its new chilled oat cereal with flaxseed, quinoa, and chia seeds. We love that it’s unsweetened, so you can control the toppings, whether it’s fresh fruit, some agave, or a sprinkle of cinnamon. Consider this to be a mix between chia pudding and overnight oats — it’s wonderfully gelatinous and creamy.
FiberOne Protein One Chocolate Chip ($10/5 bars): If nougat gives you life (but you know, you’re trying to tone it down on the sugar intake), reach for one of these chocolate chip bars, which have the a similar texture and taste. We love the crunchy mini chocolate chips swirled inside too.
Barilla Chickpea Casarecce ($3): Gluten-free, one-ingredient legume pastas are having a moment, so it makes sense a pasta giant like Barilla would hop on the trend. Its new pastas are selling out FAST on Amazon, but you can find them at grocery stores around the country. We’re fans of the Chickpea Casarecce, which tastes slightly toasted but maintains a similar texture to a wheat noodle. And at 11 grams of protein per serving, it’ll make you feel good about going back for another big scoop.
Health Warrior Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Chia Bar ($16/15 bars): Who knew a chia seed bar could taste like this? Cashew butter, brown rice syrup, and dark chocolate chips gives it the authentic cookie taste, while the chia seeds, rolled oats, and brown rice crisps offer a crunchy contrast. At only 100 calories per bar with 3 grams of sugar, it’s a snack you’ll turn to before a nasty case of the hangries strikes.
Ruinart Rosé & La Boite 1764 Spice Blend ($81): One of our fave spice masters, Lior Lev Sercarz, developed a blend hat’s intended to pair effortlessly with rosé Champagne. Can we get a round of applause? Though the spice may contain ingredients you’ve never thought to combine — licorice, grapefruit, rose petals, and sumac — it results in a fruity, acidic sprinkle you’ll want to top on poultry, lamb, veggies, and fruits. We even tried it on a beef burger, and it did not disappoint! If you’re on a budget and don’t want to splurge on the fancy bottle of sparkling, the spice is available for solo purchase on the La Boite website for $15.
Roth Creamy Gouda ($3): Babybel better watch out! Roth just introduced cheese snacks that have a strikingly similar taste and texture. Don’t mind if we do toss one of these rounds in our packed lunch. With 5 grams of protein per serving, it’s a snack you can feel good about.
Barnana Pumpkin Walnut Banana Brittle ($5): Available at Whole Foods, this organic, plant-based snack stars “ugly” South American bananas that would otherwise be discarded. Instead, they’re upcycled and used in these tasty, crunchy dessert crackers that mesh banana, walnut, pumpkin spice, and coconut.
Hi-Chew Caramel Apple ($1): Like the lollipops you grew up with as a kid, the newest flavor from Hi-Chew features a green apple core with a chewy caramel exterior. Its nostalgic taste will keep you unwrapping piece after piece.
Primal Kitchen Coconut Lime Protein Bar ($32/12 bars): Keto dieters, get excited, because there’s a new line of protein bars with 2 grams of sugar, 8 grams of protein (from egg whites), and 16 grams of almond- and coconut-derived fats. The Coconut Lime will make you feel like you're noshing on portable key lime pie, which we can all agree is a positive thing.
Gem ($20/14 pieces): Made of dates, coconut, seeds, and spirulina, these snackable squares taste mild (not like seaweed!) and sort of like homemade granola bars. At 40 calories and less than 5 grams of sugar, Gem will fill you up during that awkward time between breakfast and lunch.
Trader Joe’s Seltzers With a Splash ($3): La Croix fans just might switch allegiances for TJ’s new sparkling waters that have a splash of organic juice for extra flavor. Our favorite is the Blood Orange & Orange Juice. It tastes like real oranges without being overpowering.
Ozery Brioche Thin Buns ($4): These fluffy pockets contain no eggs or dairy and yet capture that rich texture and sweetness found in traditional French brioche bread. We recommend slicing the thin bun in half, toasting the sides, and topping them with nut butter and jam for breakfast or deli meat for lunch.
Trader Joe’s Heirloom Popcorn ($2): A welcome addition to the TJ’s popcorn family, this heirloom variety is made from smaller corn plants, resulting in uniformly tiny, crispy, and light kernels. They taste like avocado oil without verging on greasy, and there’s just enough pink salt for that addictive snacking quality.
Maman S’mores Cookies ($45/dozen): The New York bakery is now shipping its giant, gooey cookies overnight. This limited-edition flavor features the signature Maman dough (it’s like a traditional chocolate chip) with toasted marshmallows and Annie’s Bunny Grahams stirred in. Good luck sharing.
Trader Joe’s Spiced Pumpkin Madeleine Cookies ($3): These lightly sweetened, cake-like cookies are golden, pillowy, and sufficiently cinnamony — everything a fall-ready madeleine should be. Dip them in coffee, serve them on ice cream, or simply keep them in your purse for when you absolutely need sweetness on the go.
Humm Grapefruit Hops ($8-$9/40 ounces): If you’re not drinking but craving a beer like whoa, then you absolutely need to get your hands on this incredible kombucha that tastes like a cross between a hefeweizen (thanks to the grapefruit) and an IPA (due to the hops). Honestly, we think it’d be no problem to go alcohol-free if we had a forty of this stuff stocked in the fridge at all times.
Trader Joe’s Pizza Crust ($4): These pre-baked pizza crusts are TJ’s most convenient yet, as they’re ready to be topped and finished in the oven in less than 10 minutes. Pile on sauce, cheese, and other extras for a complete pizza, or brush them with olive oil, garlic, and herbs for an appetizer that will disappear in minutes. Pro tip: Bake the crusts directly on the oven rack if you like them crispy.
Pillsbury Sweet Hawaiian Crescent Rolls ($4): If you're all about those fluffy square Hawaiian rolls sweetened with pineapple juice, then you need to get your hands on the latest flavor from Pillsbury. Buttery and flaky like croissants but sticky sweet from the addition of sugar, the rolls taste wonderful solo or wrapped with ham or cream-cheese-stuffed jalapeños... or both.
Trader Joe’s Thai Tea Mini Mochi ($4): Thai tea lovers avoiding dairy better stock up. The coconut-based filling is impressively creamy and mimics the condensed milk in Thai tea. Pack these for potluck dinners, pass the tray around, and watch 'em disappear.
