Kristin Cavallari Shares an Emotional Tribute to Her Late Brother on the Second Anniversary of His Death
While holidays like Thanksgiving can be a joyous time for many, they can also be painful for a lot of people. For Hills alum Kristin Cavallari and her family, this Thanksgiving weekend marked two years since her brother Michael died unexpectedly, and she took to Instagram to commemorate the day and honor her late brother.
“This past week has been hard,” she started the emotional post. “It’s the 2nd anniversary of losing my brother and even though the date we go with is the 27th, for me it will always be the Saturday after Thanksgiving (we will never truly know the exact date even though we have a pretty good idea).”
In 2015, Michael was found dead of hypothermia in Utah, three miles from his abandoned and wrecked car. It’s believed he left the scene of the accident to seek help and later succumbed to the elements. He had been missing for weeks.
“We lost him completely unexpectedly and it’s been a rough road for me and my family,” she continued. “I’ve had some incredible signs from him though — which give me a lot of peace — including one today. We love and miss you every day Mikey.” With the note, she shared a nostalgic black-and-white photo of the two of them together as kids.

The mom of three gave birth to her youngest daughter, Saylor James, just weeks before her brother was found. At the time, she said having a newborn helped her through her family’s tragic loss.
“I’ve really found a lot of strength in my kids, especially Saylor,” she told People. “I couldn’t just fall apart — I had a little baby to look after. When you lose someone, it really makes you realize how precious life is, and so I’m just thankful that I have my babies and I’m thankful for everything in my life.”
Our thoughts go out to Kristin and the Cavallari family.
