Valentine’s Day Gift Ideas to Try or DIY
Valentine’s Day is thought to have originated with the Roman festival Lupercalia, which occurred in the middle of February. That’s springtime in Rome and in spring our hearts “beat eternal”. At Lupercalia, boys and girls would be paired up and hang out together throughout the festival. Later, if it was a “match”, they might be married. As with most so-called “pagan” festivals, the established church didn’t try to fight the tradition. Go with the flow could have been their motto. They usurped the festival and made it their own by commemorating St. Valentine. Eventually St Valentine became synonymous with love and the expression of love. Today we celebrate in much the same way, if you think about it. Boys and girls send their school friends valentines, sometimes professing their love but more often a friendship sentiment. Sweethearts exchange gifts. If you haven’t even begun to think about what to get your sweetheart, we’ve got you covered with Valentine’s Day ideas for everyone on your list.
If you want to express your creativity, consider making a Valentine’s Day countdown calendar. It’s like an advent calendar with coupons for your boo. The special offers may be naughty or nice. If you really want to spice things up, consider Valentine’s games, like Love Jenga.
