2024 Home Decor Trends To Inspire Your Next Makeover

home decor trends 2024

A new year often sparks urges for a refresh — toward healthy habits, goal setting, clutter clearing and bringing in more positive energy. For home decor enthusiasts, that all translates to the home, and often means clearing out the old and bringing in the new. Unlike fashion, though, home decor trends tend to take their time easing into major seasonal shifts (it’s easier and cheaper to swap out your wardrobe than your decor -- sustainable too!). Some home decor trends that are here to stay going into 2024? Sustainability and indoor-outdoor living, the former driven by millennials and Gen Z, according to a new design report by global surfacing company Cosentino.

They pulled designer and homeowner data to forecast top trends for 2024 and beyond, along with insights from some of the country's top designers. We asked some of our favorite designers too what they think will be hot next year. Here are new trends to watch and incorporate into your home – plus, rental hacks to try if you're not down with a whole renovation!

Quiet Luxury

Design: Hoedemaker Pffeifer | Photo: Haris Kenjar

"Similar to the fashion movement, interiors for 2024 will trend toward luxe, understated designs and materiality that do not feel overly decorative," says Peak Petersen, interior design principal at Hoedemaker Pfeiffer in Seattle. "A paired back palette, soft shapes, textural fabrics - allowing your favorite things in the room to be showcased on a subtle backdrop."

Tailored Eclectic

Design: Living With Lolo | Photo: Life Created

Mixing old with new never goes out of style but 2024 will elevate the look with a more tailored design. "Meaning, new designs will incorporate collected pieces and new pieces together to make spaces feel timeless. I like to call it tailored eclectic," says Brad Ramsey, principal and founder of Brad Ramsey Interiors in Nashville. "That term usually elicits images of cluttered rooms with no true design direction. But no more, it's time to layer it up the right way."

AI in Design

Photo: Lupton Circle

Several designers noted the impact of AI in design as a way to optimize space and be more energy efficient. "The key to remember is that AI is only as good as the information it is provided and so the need for vision and creativity will always require a design professional to navigate trends, client preferences and functionality to create an individual, thoughtful design," adds Ramsey.

Enter The "Spathroom"

Design: Devon Grace Interiors | Photo: Dustin Halleck

Spas are all about relaxation and self care, not rushing out in the morning to work. Big bathtubs, open showers, saunas, and spa-like amenities are all going to be a big trend in 2024. According to the report, designers and homeowners agreed that a spa-inspired bathroom was among their top 3 home priorities overall.

Design by Joshua Smith | Photo: Lance Gerber

Rental hack: If you’re not ready to remodel or you rent, things like marble or stone accessories, plants, and if there’s room, a chair or settee will give your bath an elevated sanctuary feel. Adding a bath shelf is an easy and affordable way to create an ultimate spa bath too!

Bold Dramatic Moves

Design: Maestri Studio | Photo: Jenifer McNeil Baker

The neutral trend transitioned into more earthy tones in 2023 and will get even bolder come the new year. "I think 2024 is going to be all about bold, dramatic moves," says Devon Wegman, founder and design director of Devon Grace Interiors in Chicago. "People are tired of playing it safe and sticking with neutrals, soft textures everywhere. Today, we're incorporating more and more graphic stone, provocative artwork, area rugs and large statement chandeliers in spaces."

Good news color lovers, that means color is definitely making a comeback in 2024.

Glam Metallics Are A Go

Cosentino Le Chic Eclectic Pearl Collection

Metallics always add a bit of luxe glamour to a space and 2024 takes them up a notch, using them in areas like kitchens and baths. According to the design report, designers chose metallic accents as their top up-and-coming trend, while homeowners rated it number two.

Design: Urbanology | Photo: Matti Greshem

Rental hack:Add a vintage mirror, gold-based vase or lamps, or metallic drawer pulls to upgrade your decor.

Hotel Vibes

Design: JOSHUA SMITH | Photo: Lance Gerber

Travel can bring major inspo to your decor. According to the report, 70 percent of designers find inspiration from resorts and hotels. Look at bedding, art, and elegant details next time you're staying at or just dining at a resort or hotel. Even a thoughtfully designed Airbnb can inspire your design to upgrade your personal home style.

Rental hack: "Grand, luxurious floral arrangements are a hallmark of hotel lobbies," says Sarah Eilers of Houston-based Lucas/Eilers Design Associates. "Placing a floral arrangement on a console table or in an elegant vase in your entryway can set the tone for your entire home.”

Kitchen Is King

Design: Living With Lolo | Photo: Life Created

The central headquarters of any home, the kitchen remains a focal point for design. Homeowners are looking to upgrade their kitchens for their own use (the best appliances and conveniences) but also for entertaining their guests with comfortable spaces to sit and have conversation.

Investment in the kitchen remains the number one priority for homeowners and designers in terms of budget too. More than 80 percent of designers are now bringing kitchens to the backyard as well, says the Cosentino report.

Photo by Alexy Almond for Pexels

Rental hack: Bring in furniture you can take with you that creates an inviting space for you and your guest; add a chandelier or pendant to replace rental "boob" lights; and create a counter "scape" with cutting board, vase, and cookbooks as a focal point.

Brown In All Its Shades

Design: Living with Lolo | Photo: Life Created

"We'll be drowning in brown in all the best ways in 2024," says Ramsey. "Think about coffee, cappuccino, and lattes and how those warm colors hit the spot just like your afternoon Starbucks fix." His current brown paint obsession? "Currently love Sherwin Williams - Iced Mocha 9092!"

Design: Living with Lolo | Photo: Life Created

Look to make brown your next color accent. Pair your woods and leathers with a complimentary color to offset the mix of brown tones. Greenery always helps to infuse more color too!

Patterns and Bold Marble

Design: Urbanology Designs | Photo: Matti Gresham

Designers all agree that the rustic farmhouse aesthetic is out for 2024. "I think it's time for the coastal California look to step aside. This came in hot after Modern Farmhouse faded away, and I think people are ready for more drama and uniqueness," adds Wegman. Don't second guess yourself in 2024 in all the ways, including decor -- the bolder you are, the better!

Reuse + Sustainability

Design: Urbanology | Photo: Matti Gresham

"People are more aware of the value of existing structures and objects and the waste created by discarding them. I think we’ll see design embracing and reimagining the old in new and exciting ways," says Kelly Jimenez, architect principal at Hoedemaker Pfeiffer.

Biophilic Design Elements

Photo by Charlotte May for Pexels

Bring the outdoors in for a healthy, happy home in 2024. "Biophilic design will thrive in 2024," says Ginger Curtis, CEO and founder of Urbanology Designs in Dallas. "This trend centers around bringing the outdoors inside, creating spaces that foster a stronger connection with nature. Expect to see more indoor plants, living green walls, natural materials like stone and wood, and large windows to maximize natural light and reduce the barrier between the interior and exterior."

Move over butter yellow — powder blue is the new it-color of the season, and it's everywhere! Summer colors are trending towards pastels this year, with lighter yellows, pinks, and purples staying popular well past spring and into the warmer months. And while those hues are always adorable, my favorite pastel of late has to be powder blue! It's such a nice pop of color, pairing with just about anything and looking great on everyone! From mini dresses to wear to the beach to maxi dresses perfect for a wedding, we've got all the powder blue dress picks that you're guaranteed to love!

Reformation Arella Linen Dress

This is powder blue, but it almost looks like denim from a distance — another one of many reasons I love this versatile color! This mini powder blue dress is styled perfectly with white ankle socks and chunky black loafers to add a cool-girl aspect to the outfit!

Petal and Pup Tiered Dress

This Bridgerton-esque dress is sure to make you look like a diamond of the season with its layered tulle and romantic neckline. Plus, powder blue is definitely a House Bridgerton hue — I could see Daphne Bridgerton rocking this gown in a heartbeat! So stunning!

Pepper Mayo

Pepper Mayo Loren Dress

Attention, folks! The most perfect and idyllic wedding guest dress has arrived, and she deserves all the applause! This is a 10/10 for me in terms of the length, silhouette, and color! It's perfect for any and all events you're headed to this summer!

En Saison Floral Dress

A powder blue floral option is a must, because summer is the season of endless floral patterns — and I'm more than here for it! This dress is adorable with its bow strap details and dainty powder blue pastel! Pair it with white strappy sandals and a dainty white bag, and voila! The perfect summer, date night 'fit!

Reformation Cherry Dress

With this adorable mini, you're sure to look like a French dream! Recreate your Emily in Paris dream with this powder blue dress paired with the perfect mary jane (like above). You can even drape a sweater over your shoulders for added effect — and in case it's a breezier summer night.

Open Edit Cowl Neck Dress

As you may know, slip dresses are all the rage right now, so this is the perfect way to mesh two of our favorite trends into one! Plus, this dress comes in at a great deal at right under $70! Who says you can't do trendy on a budget?! Not us!

Abercrombie Sequin Dress

I could see this dress being such a fun Bachelorette party dress as a fun play on the "something blue" tradition. Also...who doesn't love a sequin mini? They're so fun and essential for any night out!

WAYF Pleated Sundress

Sundressesare an essential in the summertime for me. I often hate the idea of throwing on pants or jeans in the summer heat, so sundresses — and especially strapless ones — really save me! They're so easy to throw on in a hurry with a pair of flip flops or sandals! In the blink of an eye, you're out the door and ready to go!

Reformation Maybe Knit Dress

Reformation is THE place to shop for any dresses, because the quality and silhouettes are just a 10/10 every time. They're always ahead of the style game in terms of trends, too. I love this adorable mini, especially with the vintage-inspired styling above.

House of CB Lolita Dress

I usually opt for House of CB's floral pieces, but this powder blue midi dress is just so good! It's sure to be a staple for years to come, and this A-line silhouette is definitely here to stay!

Abercrombie Maxi Dress

Want a sundress that could be dressed up or dressed down? Then we've got the perfect pick for you! This one has cut-outs in the side that make it a bit more sexy than our other picks, but it can also be dressed down casually with a sweater and some sandals. I love the versatility!

Abercrombie Draped Skirt Dress

This very on-trend dress from Abercrombie features draping that is super flattering on all body types! It's also the perfect shade of powder blue, so naturally it's the perfect way to wrap up this roundup!

Good Girl, Bad Blood

Kill Joy: Novella

As Good As Dead

Pip is almost off to college, but she's troubled by her last case and the tragic way it ended. Now, the death threats and remarks are starting to get to her more than usual; especially considering she thinks that someone's following her. Though Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck have reconnected, there have rumors that their marriage may be in trouble. A source alerted InTouch Weekly that there have been obvious signs that something is wrong for a while.

"The writing is on the wall – it’s over," the source claims before saying, "They’re headed for a divorce – and for once, [Ben’s] not to blame!" The source believes the two have a lot of love for each other, but that they're jus too different to be together.

TMZ has also reported that Ben seems like he hasn't been living at home — yikes! He was photographed leaving going to and coming from a L.A. home without Jennifer. It's also being reported that he's been allegedly spending the night there.

But, TMZ also pointed out that the pair are still wearing their wedding rings so it's hard to say if there's any merit to the breakup rumors. Until Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck actually give a statement, I'm going to cross my fingers and hope for the best! And we're not the only ones — 13 Going on 30's Jennifer Garner (who was married to Ben Affleck from 2005-2015) “is encouraging Ben to work on his marriage to Jen,” according to an Us Weeklysource. “She fully supports their relationship and wants nothing more than for him to be happy.”

Also, Jennifer Lopez wants us to really mind our business. People reported than an actress was not feeling a pushy reporter's question about her marriage and didn't have a problem letting them know. She was promoting Atlas with her co-stars when said reporter asked, "Is your divorce with Ben Affleck real? These rumors?"

Though her co-star Simu Liu expressed his disdain for the questions first, Jennifer quickly said," You know better than that." This lets us know that Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck are well aware that people are talking about their marriage.

Still, this hasn't stopped insiders from talking about what's going on behind closed doors. One even reached out to People to say, "They’re still living separately," and "She’s back in L.A. for tour rehearsals. She seems okay. She’s very focused on work." The outlet even reported that the couple are in fact living apart and have been seen on several occasions without each other.

While I know some people could care less, I remember when Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck first started dating so to see them struggling again feels a little painful. I'm trying to keep hope alive, but they ultimately know what's going on in their relationship. If they do choose to separate, that's a choice we'll all have to respect.

June 21, 2024 — Ben Affleck Discusses Family Life With Jennifer Lopez

In a newly released interview with Kevin Hart, Ben Affleck showed a rare vulnerability that we don't often see. The two chatted about several things during the Season 4 premiere of Hart to Heart, but it was Ben's admission that he has "resting hard face" (via Entertainment Tonight) that caught our attention.

Though there have been theories about why Ben often looks like he'd rather be somewhere else than dealing with paparazzi, he made it clear why he's not always smiling when the cameras are on him. "I also don't like a lot of attention...people see me [and] they're like, ‘Well, this dude always mad…’ Because somebody has their camera and sticking to my face.”

Ben even mentioned a time when he, Jennifer, and their kids were trying to make it to a play while walking through Times Square. Though he knows fans are going to be excited to see them, it's obvious he's not thrilled when their kids are subject to that kind of pandemonium.

"We get out with her, all the kids, through Times Square, and the s--- was like f---in’ bananas...it feels like hundreds of people and now screaming," Ben explained (via People).
