For me, one of the best things about winter is the food and drink. I鈥檓 not a big lover of snow and cold weather (I鈥檓 definitely more of a sunshine person!), but cozying up inside with a blanket, a wintry dessert and a glass of something hot is more than enough to make up for it. Hot chocolate is my go-to belly warmer, but if you fancy something a bit more boozy, try hot buttered rum instead. It鈥檚 hot and spicy, and will totally warm you up from the inside out.

Ingredients:

  • 3 1/2 ounces unsalted butter, softened
  • 1-2 Tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • spiced rum
  • boiling water

Instructions:

1. Add the softened butter to a mixing bowl with the sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg. Cream together until well combined.

2. Add a dollop of the spiced butter to a glass or mug, and add a good dash of rum. Fill the glass with boiling water, and stir well until the butter has completely melted. You can adjust the quantities of butter, rum and water depending on your preference.

This spiced butter can be stored in the fridge so it鈥檚 ready to go whenever you fancy making a hot buttered rum. You can use it for other things too (it鈥檚 great as a spread on a bagel!).

And the only other thing that can make hot buttered rum even better? Whipped cream! If it鈥檚 good enough for hot chocolate, it鈥檚 good enough for hot rum.
