Trader Joe’s is wonderful for so many reasons. From Keto snacks to Whole30 compliant treats, to just all-around clean-eating pantry staples, TJ’s has you covered. What you probably didn’t know, however, is that they also have one of the best selections of staple French ingredients around. Here, three picks to say bonjour to.
1. Cultured Salted Butter ($3): Butter is an inescapable ingredient in France. (Unless, of course, you’re in the south of France, where they are dedicated olive oil connoisseurs). It’s essential to most dishes, and as such, the French are very particular about the type of butter. While it varies from region to region, the ultimate might come from Brittany, where it has large flakes of sea salt and a slightly tart flavor. Try it smeared on a slice of freshly baked bread.
2. Saint André Cheese ($8): We all know that a good cheese is absolutely essential to pretty much any meal. However, it can be difficult to find one that pleases everybody. Let us introduce you to one that will: Saint André, a triple cream style cheese, has a very mild flavor and silky, buttery texture. It’s imported directly from France and is a budget-friendly way to add decadence to any meal. Plus, if you want to try and make some traditional French dishes that require a layer of toasted cheese on top, this is a great choice.
3. Columbus Salami Secchi ($13): Welcome to the world of saucisson or hard cured salami, a snack staple in France. Stock up on Columbus brand Salami Secchi, which features the flavors of pork and nothing else.
