Justina Huddleston is a food writer living in Los Angeles. When she's not busy writing, she spends her time in the kitchen creating both virtuous and decidedly junky vegan food. Buffalo chickpea pizza, anyone? She's also been known to eat a plain block of tofu or beans straight out of the can for lunch, but somehow those culinary adventures don't make it to her Instagram. You can follow Justina on Twitter or see what's cooking in her kitchen on her blog, A Life of Little Pleasures.
When we're pressed for time but want to celebrate the season, we're always down to pick up a fast food holiday treat. Our fave chains like Starbucks, Krispy Kreme, and iHop are rolling out their winter specialties, and we'll be keeping track of the tastiest new releases. Keep checking back for the best the holidays have to offer. Here is what we know of so far.
Krispy Kreme Pumpkin Spice Original Glazed Donut ($3/each; $12/half dozen): Get your hands on the Krispy Kreme Pumpkin Spice Original Glazed Donut while you can — it will only be available for a week, from November 16 through November 22.
Krispy Kreme Gingerbread Glazed Donut ($3/each; $12/half dozen): A raised gingerbread and cinnamon donut wrapped in luscious gingerbread molasses glaze is just what you need to wake up on cold winter mornings. Look for this treat in December 2018.
Krispy Kreme Cinnamon Swirl Donut ($3/each; $12/half dozen): A swirl of cinnamon and cream cheese icing top these fluffy sugar and spice donuts. You can grab one through January 2019.
Peet's Coffee Dark Chocolate Orange Mocha ($5-$6): Peet's pairs the flavors of deep, dark Dutch cocoa with sweet citrus and espresso. A dollop of whipped cream on top finishes things off on a sweet note.
iHop Minty Who Hot Chocolate ($3): A cross-promotion with the new animated Grinch movie, this mint hot cocoa is topped with green whipped topping and red candy hearts.
Grinch's Green Pancakes ($8): Fluffy buttermilk pancakes receive the real holiday treatment at iHop. They come light green and are garnished with cream cheese icing, red candy hearts, and green whipped topping.
Starbucks Chocolate Swirl Brioche ($3): Starbucks has a handful of new food items on offer this holiday season. We're partial to this buttery brioche, layered with fudgy dark chocolate and cinnamon and glazed with honey syrup.
Starbucks Penguin Cake Pop ($2): Kids will love these cute penguin cake pops from Starbucks... But for kidults, the only thing to do is pair this with a peppermint mocha.
Starbucks Pistachio Honey Croissant ($3): Pair your coffee with a decadent, flaky pastry that's sprinkled with crushed pistachios and drizzled with honey glaze.
Starbucks Sugar Plum Cheese Danish ($3): Visions of sugar plums will dance right in front of you when you order one of these cream cheese and spiced plum danishes from Starbucks.
