Jane the Virgin star and Kipling model Gina Rodriguez shocked us all when she pulled the most badass beauty stunt ever and shaved off nearly all of her hair several weeks ago (sparking a trend? Check out VS angel Taylor Hill’s new unexpected coif), and now, the actress is speaking out about how the chop has affected her life. Take it from us when we say that her new outlook? Is seriously inspiring.

Posting this picture by photographer Matt Doyle, Gina writes: “I cut my hair for a film and there is nothing more freeing [than] realizing your beauty exists from within. I am not my hair. I am not my weight. I am not my skin color. I am love, I want to be love with every interaction, with every decision I make for myself, with every failure and success. You should try it. I dare you. Let go of what you think would make you more beautiful and discover you have all you need already inside.”

Wow. Let that sink in for a minute. In a world where our outward appearance has become so very important (just ask model Emily Ratajkowski, who recently spoke out about the impact her looks have had on her), it’s refreshing to hear someone — especially someone so frequently in the public eye — remind us that looks are only skin deep, and that it truly is what’s inside that counts.

Thank you for such a beautifully simple reminder and for making us smile, Gina. You’re truly tops.

Would you be willing to shave off your hair to go beyond skin deep values? Let us know over @BritandCo!
